Waynesburg men roll over Bethany

Thomas Ellis came off the bench to lead a balanced scoring effort with 17 points as Waynesburg handed visiting Bethany a 96-64 defeat in a Presidents’ Athletic Conference men’s basketball game Saturday.

Jason Probst and B.J. Durham added 14 points each, while Kenny Klase and Jacob Fleegle scored 13 for the Yellow Jackets (3-2, 7-7).

Waynesburg scored 57 points in the first half, grabbing a 26-point lead. The Yellow Jackets made 55 percent of their shots from the field and were 22 of 25 from the free-throw line.

Calique Jones scored 14 points, while Delonte Joyce and Jeff Joynes added 12 each for Bethany (1-4, 6-8), which shot just 31 percent.

Indiana 69, Califrornia 45: Brandon Norfleet scored 20 points and made four of Indiana’s 13 three-pointers as the Crimson Hawks crusied to a 69-45 victory over California in a PSAC West Division game at the Convocation Center.

The loss snapped a four-game winning streak for California (7-4, 11-5).

Norfleet, the son of former California standout Darryl Norfleet, scored 11 of his points during the first half as IUP (8-2, 14-2) raced to a 32-16 halftime lead.

Cal shot only 27 percent in the first half and 34 percent for the game. The Vulcans went more than 10 minutes without scoring and fell behind 20-2.

Shawn Dyer scored 16 points for IUP, Jeremy Jeffers had 11 and Devante Chance 10.

Drew Cook was the only California player to score in double figures. he had 16 points on 5-for-7 shooting.

Thomas More 95, Washington & Jefferson 69: Nate McGovney made 11 of his 15 shots – including 7 of 9 three-pointers – scoring 33 points and leading Thomas More to a 96-69 PAC win over Washington & Jefferson.

Drew Mumford added 19 points on 8-of-10 shooting and also had six assists for the Saints (4-1, 9-5), who also got 10 points each from Drew Mays and Austin Young.

Jalen Clark had a team-high 10 rebounds for Thomas More, which made 13 three-pointers.

Mike Resnik led W&J (0-5, 1-13) with 22 points and 12 rebounds. Mitch Locher and Brian Lindquist added 16 and 11 points, respectively, for the Presidents

Waynesburg 73, Bethany 65: Addy Knetzer, a freshman from Chartiers-Houston High School, scored a career-high 25 points off the bench and grabbed 11 rebounds as Waynesburg defeated Bethany, 73-65, in a PAC game at Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse.

Knetzer was 12-for-21 from the field despite playing just 24 minutes. She also blocked a pair of shots.

Maura Bobby added 15 points off the bench for the Yellow Jackets (2-3, 5-7), who led 30-29 at the half. Heather Davis scored 10 points for the Yellow Jackets.

Mikayla Tipton led Bethany (3-3, 7-6) with 22 points. Kelsea Daugherty had 15 points and 14 rebound, and Sami Schott had 11 points and 13 rebounds.
