Myers carries Char-Houston to victory over Burgettstown

Jalynn Myers scored a career-high 26 points and had 10 rebounds as Chartiers-Houston made a big second quarter stand up in a 54-33 Section 3-AA win over host Burgettstown.

Playing without leading scorer Alexa Williamson, who is out with a knee injury, the Bucs trailed 8-7 after one quarter. But Myers and Jules Vulcano, who had 17 points, combined for 20 points in a 26-4 second quarter run as Chartiers-Houston (4-2, 9-4) took control.

Sam Scopel led Burgettstown (2-3, 8-5) with 14 points.

Washington 42, Frazier 38: Taja Gordon scored 17 points as Washington jumped out to a 20-12 halftime lead and held on for a 42-38 Section 4-AA win over host Frazier.

The game was largely won at the free-throw line, where the Prexies (5-1, 8-5) were 13-for-24, while the Commodores (4-2, 5-5) made just 4-of-16 attempts.

Mikayla Matony added 10 points for Washington, while Cassidy Guiser paced Frazier with 14 points.

Jefferson-Morgan 59, Mapletown 40: Nikki Venick scored 16 points to lead a balanced scoring attack as Jefferson-Morgan bolted out to a 36-14 halftime lead en route to a 59-40 Section 3-A victory over Mapletown.

Kayla Yorko added 13 points and Ali Bogden had 10 for the Rockets (5-1, 11-1).

Madison Bogden scored eight points to lead Mapletown (2-5, 3-9).

Beth-Center 53, Bentworth 43: Anna Bartman had 23 points and Beth-Center made 7 of 8 free throws in the closing moments of the game to hold off Bentworth, 53-43, in a Section 4-AA game.

The Bulldogs (4-2, 6-3) led by six with just over one minute to play, but sealed the victory at the foul line. Bentworth falls to 2-4, 6-6.

Kinlee Whited scored 13 points in the winning effort, while Grace Marchezak had 18 points and Heather Chester added 11 for the Bearcats.

Carmichaels 46, Waynesburg 34: Carmichaels and Waynesburg combined for 82 free throws in a game in which 59 fouls were assessed and the Mikes came away with a 46-34 Section 4-AA victory.

Emily Novak led the Mikes (1-5, 5-9) by scoring 12 points. Carmichaels was 18-of-40 from the line.

Celine Monica led Waynesburg (0-6, 2-9) with 13 points. The Raiders were 23-of-42 from the line.

California 45, Monessen 10: Kylie Huffman scored 16 points and California held visiting Monessen to only three field goals as the Trojans remained undefeated in Section 3-A with a 45-10 thumping of the Grehounds.

Huffman made four of California’s five three-pointers as the Trojans improved to 7-0 in the section and 14-1 overall. Cal has won 14 in a row. Lyndsey Huhn scored 12 points for the Trojans.

Monessen fell to 4-3 in the section and 6-7 overall.

Fort Cherry 38, Geibel Catholic 24: Tina Bellhy and Hannah Greene combined for 28 points and Fort Cherry’s defense allowed only eight points in the second half as the Rangers defeated host Geibel Catholic 38-24 in Section 3-A.

The win moves Fort Cherry above .500 in the section at 4-3 and 4-8 overall. Geibel is 3-3, 5-4.

Bellhy scored a game-high 16 points and Greene followed with 12 for the Rangers, who led 22-16 and secured the win by outscoring the Gators 10-2 in the fourth quarter.

Riley Bocan and Judy Karly each had eight points for Geibel.

Avella 51, West Greene 48: Grace Lengauer and Jade Georgetti combined for 32 points as Avella compelted a come-from-behind, 51-48, victory over West Greene in A Section 3-A game.

Lengauer scored a team-high 18 points and Georgetti added 14 for the Eagles (1-5, 2-10). West Greene took a 32-28 lead at the end of the third quarter, but was outscored by seven points in the final eight minutes.

Sarah Courtwright (28 points) and Rachel Carrico (12) reached career highs in scoring for the Pioneers (0-6, 0-14).

Boys results

Geibel Catholic 72, Jefferson-Morgan 62: James Ewing scored 14 of his 28 points in the decisive fourth quarter as Geibel Catholic overcame an 11-point third quarter deficit to defeat Jefferson-Morgan, 72-62, in a Section 3-A game.

Up 37-31 at the half, the Rockets (2-3, 7-5) increased that lead to 11 points in the third quarter, only to see Geibel (4-2, 7-5) storm back with a 25-9 run in the final quarter.

Kyle Toth added 17 points for the Gators, while Rece Henneman led Jefferson-Morgan with 33 points.
