Fitzgerald’s pin gets it done for Peters Township
Mitch Fitzgerald pinned Jack Burton in the final bout of the night to give Peters Township a 36-30 victory over Upper St. Clair in a Section 2-B match in Class AAA.
The win gives Peters Township first place in the subsection.
Phil Mary (132), Luke Mary (138) and Sal Merante (160), each had a pin for the Indians (5-0, 5-2).
Tom Kyle (120), Brooks Wilding (170) and Jim Pollock (Hvy) had pins for USC (2-3, 3-8).
Waynesburg 59, Chartiers Valley 18: Waynesburg won all but three bouts in rolling past Chartiers Valley, 59-18, in a Section 4-A match in Class AAA.
Ryan Braun (113), Shaun Wilson (138), Shane Piper (152), Colin McCracken (182) and Ryan Keys (195) each had a pin for the Raiders (3-1, 13-2), who finish in second place in the subsection.
Joe Darges (220) and Nick Canton had pins for CV (0-4, 0-4).
Bentworth 33, Mapletown 33: Bentworth needed the eighth tiebreaker – first match points – to break a 33-33 tie with Mapletown and grab the victory in a Section 2-A dual meet in Class AA.
Hunter Neely (126) and Corey Nickeson (160) each had a pin for the Bearcats (1-3, 2-4).
Gavin Uphold (170) had a pin for the Maples (1-4, 2-8).
Jefferson-Morgan 52, Beth-Center 24: Jefferson-Morgan sewed up second place in Section 2-A with a 52-24 victory over Beth-Center.
Beth-Center will finish third. Both teams will compete in next week’s Section Team Tournament.
Gavin Teasdale (113), Austin Goldsberry (132), Trevor Jamison (145), Trevor Kniha (152) and Ian Wolfe (Hvy) had pins for the Rockets (4-1, 7-4).
John Little (182) had a pin for B-C (3-2, 3-2).
Burgettstown 51, South Side Beaver 16: Burgettstown locked up the Section 1-B title with a 51-16 victory over South Side Beaver.
Jared Vraninin (120), Evan Pethel (145), Jake McKee (170) and Brad Hucik (195) got pins for the Blue Devils, who won 10 of 14 bouts. Also, Austin McDermitt (126) won by technical fall, and Darrell Bails (138), Tyler Nicholson (160) and Jim Reedy (Hvy) won by decision for Burgettstown.
Chartiers-Houston 55, Washington 18: Chartiers-Houston only needed to win three bouts on its way to a 55-18 victory over Washington in a Section 1-A dual meet in Class AA.
The Prexies forfeited six bouts, and Dom Provenzano (152), Garrett Grimm (182), T.J. Johnston (220) and Trey Lober (Hvy) got wins for the Bucs. Provenzano and Johnson got the only pins of the meet.
Kurt Adkins (145) and Jack Mern (160) won by decision for Wash High.
Canon-McMillan 58, Moon 10: Canon-McMillan got five wins on the way to a 58-10 win over Moon to finish first in Section 4-A in a dual meet in Class AAA.
Camden Fontenot (132), Matt Oblock (138), Micah Kusturis (145), Tommy James (182) and Brendan Furman (Hvy) got pins for the Big Macs (4-0, 8-3). Blaze Kansco (160), Jesse Lesko (170) and Jared Hladycz (220) won by decision for Canon-Mac.
Nathan Barcasky (195) got Moon’s lone victory with a 9-1 decision.
McGuffey 55, West Greene 18: McGuffey won 10 of 14 bouts to wrap up the Section 2-A title in Class AA with a 55-18 victory over West Greene.
Teague Nicolella (120) and Dylan Richey (160) won by decision for the Highlanders (5-0, 16-2), who received eight forfeits.
West Greene won the first three bouts of the dual meet with pins by Connor Main (182) and Will Van Norman (220), as well as a victory by Owen Main (195) before McGuffey won 10 of the next 11.
