Sites set for section team wrestling tournaments
Three local teams will host their respective pod in the WPIAL Team Section Tournament Wednesday.
In Class AA, McGuffey is the site for Section 2 and South Fayette for Section 1. Canon-McMillan will host Section 4 in Class AAA.
The format is the same as last year’s with doubleheaders at each pod. Four teams wrestle in each section at 6 p.m. Those winners will wrestle at 7:30 p.m. for the section title. The losers wrestle for third and fourth.
Fifth-place bouts will take place at different sites. The top five teams in each section advance so only the losers of the fifth-place bouts are eliminated. Locally, Trinity, Fort Cherry and Beth-Center will battle in the fifth-place dual meets.
Those placements will help in the seeding process for the WPIAL Team tournament, which begins the week of Jan. 26.
