Geneva’s 3-pointers sink Waynesburg
Ethan Adamcyzk scored 21 points and Geneva used some torrid long-range shooting to defeat visiting Waynesburg, 81-69, Wednesday night in a Presidents’ Athletic Conference game.
Geneva made eight of 11 three-point field goals as the Golden Tornadoes evened their conference record at 4-4 and improved to 7-10 overall. Waynesburg ends the first half of league play at 5-3 and falls to 9-8 overall.
Jimmy Leichliter came off the bench to score 18 points for Geneva and make all six of his three-point shots. Chase Vaudrin added 15 points for Geneva, which shot 59 percent for the game.
Waynesburg was led by Jason Propst’s 13 points. Kenny Klase scored 12 points and Thomas Ellis had 11.
Geneva built a 29-17 lead before Waynesburg used a 14-3 run to close to within 32-31. Geneva led 38-36 at halftime and opened the second half with a 9-2 run. Waynesburg could draw no closer than seven points the rest of the way.
Westminster 92, Wash & Jeff 50: Jason Pilarski led five Westminster players in double figures with 18 points and the hot-shooting Titans cruised to a 92-50 victory over Washington & Jefferson in a PAC game at Henry Memorial Center.
Westminster (2-6, 5-12) made 15 of 27 three-point attempts in the game and forged a 27-point lead by halftime.
Matt Getsy scored 17 points for the Titans and Deontay Scott had a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds.
W&J (0-8, 1-16) lost its eighth in a row. The Presidents did get 19 points and seven rebounds from Mike Resnik. Mitch Locher scored 11 points.
Women’s results
Wash & Jeff 71, Westminster 41:\ Valerie Dunlap had a double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds and Washington & Jefferson defeated cold-shooting Westminster 71-41 in a PAC game.
Dunlap, who scored her 1,000th career point last week, had a strong overall game. She blocked five shots in the first half, when W&J raced to a 30-12 lead.
Westminster (2-7, 3-13) made only four of 27 shots in the first half (14.8 percent) and the Titans shot only 22 percent from the field for the game. Westminster had 13 more turnovers (24) than field goals (11). The Titans had won two in a row.
W&J used 19 players in the game and had 13 score at least two points. Taylor Cortazzo joined Dunlap in double figures with 11 points. Rachel Durbin led Westminster with 11 points.
Waynesburg 86, Geneva 68: Rebecca Kerr scored 18 points, leading three Waynesburg players in double figures, as the Yellow Jackets rolled to an 86-68 victory over host Geneva in a PAC game.
Kerr made eight of 12 shots and had three assists for Waynesburg (5-4, 8-8), which moved its record to .500 overall.
Point guard Lauren Blair had 12 points and four steals for Waynesburg and Katie Gehlmann contributed 11 points. The Yellow Jackets, who shot 52 percent, took control of the game early, forging a 25-9 lead and holding a 35-20 advantage at halftime.
Heidi Mann and Nicole Hyland each scored 20 points for Geneva (2-7, 4-12). Hyland had a game-high 10 rebounds.
