Ringgold ends skid, wins at Waynesburg

Ringgold had three double-digit scorers and Waynesburg could not overcome a rough second quarter as the Rams defeated the host Raiders, 59-49, Wednesday night in a non-section game.

George Martin led Ringgold with 18 points, while Nico Law added 13 and Anthony Pampena finished with 11. The Rams (6-10) trailed by four points at the end of the first quarter before outscoring Waynesburg, 12-4, in the second. Ringgold, which ended a six-game losing streak, pulled away with a five-point advantage in the third quarter.

Dom Sarra had 24 points and nine rebounds for the Raiders (12-4) and Mitch Warman added 13 points with 11 rebounds.

Frazier 72, Jefferson-Morgan 69: Sophomore guard Damon Lovis scored 16 points and made four of Frazier’s seven three-point field goals as the Commodores held off visiting Jefferson-Morgan 72-69 in a non-section game that was postponed earlier this month.

Frazier (8-8) raced to a 47-38 lead at halftime, but Jefferson-Morgan (8-8) battled back behind a 30-point performance by Rece Hennman. The Rockets closed to within 72-69 and Henneman had a three-point shot that would have tied the score in the final seven seconds bounce off the rim.

Josh Cox led Frazier with 18 points, Alvin Ross had 15 and Caleb Cox scored 12. The Commodores had only five players crack the scoring column.

Austin Clark had 12 points for J-M and Dylan Davis followed with 10.

California 69, Bentworth 25: California won its third game in six days as the Trojans cruised to a 69-25 victory over Bentworth in a non-section game.

The Trojans (9-4) had three players score in double figures, led by Kass Taylor with 18 points. Johnny Defranko followed with 15 points that came on five three-pointers, and Trey Matthews contributed 13 points.

T.J. Kurtz led Bentworth (6-11) with 12 points.

Girls basketball

Beth-Center 58, Mapletown 27: Anna Bartman scored a game-high 21 points as Beth-Center defeated Mapletown, 58-27, in a non-section game.

Bartman made three three-pointers and was joined in double figures by Kinlee Whited (13 points) and Mary Gustovich (10). The Bulldogs (6-2, 8-3) started the game on an 18-1 run and outscored the Maples, 14-7, in the second quarter. Beth-Center made 10 of 12 free throws.

Brook Duranko had 10 points for Mapletown (3-7, 4-12).

Chartiers-Houston 62, Washington 30: Alexa Williamson scored 19 of her game-high 27 points to help Chartiers-Houston head coach Laura Montecalvo earn a 62-30 victory over her alma mater, Washington, in a non-section game.

Jalynn Myers added 14 points for the Bucs (12-5), who led 27-17 at halftime before a 20-point third quarter. The Prexies (10-6) made just 1 of 8 free throws and were outscored 20-4 in the third quarter.

Nicole Hoffman led Wash High with 10 points.
