Trinity returns to WPIAL Class AAA bracket
Trinity wrestling is back in the WPIAL Class AAA Team Tournament.
Trinity won eight of 14 bouts Wednesday night on its way to a 39-30 victory over visiting Montour in a Section 4-AAA fifth-place qualifier to advance to the team tournament next week.
Evan Parkinson (106), Mike Koloky (113), Gino Cecchine (145) and Justin Ritter (170)got pins for the Hillers.
Tony Stadmon (126), Ryan Yocum (132) and Robert West (220) won by decision.
Drew Vich (138) and J.P. Wegley (152) got Montour’s only pins.
Beth-Center 40, Derry 30:
Beth-Center got lost five of its first six bouts, but won seven of the next eight to earn a 40-30 victory over Derry in a Section 2-AA fifth-place qualifier match.
Robert Work (152), Anthony Welsh (170), Nico Brown (182) and John Little (195) got pins for the Bulldogs. Jason Stay (160) won by major decision, while Colton Dillon (195) and Josh Van Divner (Hvy) won by decision.
Quinton Westerbeck (138) and George Phillippi (145) got pins for Derry.
In other matches: South Side Beaver also advanced to the tournament with a 60-15 victory over Fort Cherry in the Section 1-AA fifth-place match to advance to the WPIAL Team Tournament. Peters Township lost in the first round of the Section 2-AAA tournament to Connellsville, 48-19, before losing the consolation match to Mt. Lebanon, 45-27. The Indians willo enter the WPIAL Team Tournament as the fourth-place team from Section 2. No match results were made available to the Observer-Reporter.
