Popeck’s career-high 29 sparks Wash High

Sophomore Matt Popeck scored a career-high 29 points as Washington overwhelmed visiting Bishop Canevin, 97-75, in a Section 3-AA high school boys basketball game Friday night.

Nathan Swart added 25 points for the Prexies (8-2, 10-6), who pulled into a tie with the Crusaders (8-2, 13-4) for second place in the section behind Seton-La Salle, which Washington defeated earlier in the week.

DeQuay Isbell and Markel Pulliam each chipped in 12 points for Washington, and Jonathan Spina scored 11.

Mitchell King had 29 points for Bishop Canevin, which also got 11 points from Walter Bonds and 10 from John Weldon.

Burgettstown 64, Fort Cherry 47: Hunter Lecker scored 20 points as Burgettstown stayed in playoff contention in Section 3-AA with a 64-47 win oer Fort Cherry.

Jeremy John added 14 points, and Dylan Dhans had 13 points and eight rebounds for the Blue Devils (5-5, 8-9).

Devon Brown led Fort Cherry (2-8, 3-14) with 17 points, while Rob McAnany added 11 points in the losing effort.

Chartiers-Houston 63, Carlynton 42: Alec Ferrari and A.J. Myers scored 19 points each to lead Chartiers-Houston to a 63-42 Section 3-AA win over Carlynton.

The Bucs (4-6, 9-9) outscored Carlynton (1-9, 5-12) 35-11 over the second and third quarters.

Tarik Isak’s 14 points led Carlynton.

Carmichaels 56, Bentworth 42: Jacob Kinsell’s 22 points helped Carmichaels win its first Section 4-AA game, a 56-42 win over Bentworth.

Nick Mundell added 17 points and Jacob Wamsley had 13 for the Mikes (1-6, 5-11).

Nick Silver scored 11 points, and Angelo Rios-Lopez and Zach Robker had 10 each for Bentworth (2-7, 6-12).

Monessen 101, Avella 11: Dwight Moore scored 23 points as Monessen defeated undermanned Avella, 101-11, in a Section 3-A game.

Jaden Altomore (17), Lavalle Rush (15) and Justice Rice (12) also were in double digits for the Greyhounds (8-0, 11-5).

Keith Painter scored five points for Avella (1-8, 1-17), which was playing without four starters.

California 79, Geibel Catholic 42: K.C. Zajicek scored 22 points to lead California to a 79-42 Section 3-A win over Geibel Catholic.

Tray Matthews chipped in 20 points and Kass Taylor had 17 for California (7-1, 11-4).

Bailey Miller led Geibel (5-4, 8-8) with 12 points.

Mt. Lebanon 49, Peters Township 30: John David’s 22 points led Mt. Lebanon to a 49-30 Section 4-AAAA win over Peters Township.

Patrick Ehland added 10 points for the Blue Devils (9-1, 14-4).

Ben Doyle and Clayton Yeates had six points each for the Indians (2-8, 6-10).

West Greene 48, Mapletown 37: Colton Rush poured in 17 points to send West Greene to a 48-37 win over Mapletown in a Section 3-A game.

Craig Weaver scored 12 points and Bray Jackson 10 for the Pioneers (4-4, 6-11).

Adam Hein paced the Maples (1-6, 1-15) with 11 points.

South Fayette 56, Trinity 29: Jack Relihan scored 19 points and South Fayette held Trinity to single digits in each quarter to record a 56-29 win in a Section 5-AAA game.

Brett Brumbaugh chipped in with 10 points for the Lions (9-0, 13-1), who led 26-14 at halftime.

Nick Moretti’s nine points paced the Hillers (3-6, 6-10).

Canon-McMillan 60, Moon 57: Britton Beachy scored a career-high 39 points to make the difference in a 60-57 victory over Moon in a Section 4-AAAA game.

The 6-0 sophomore guard had 11 field goals and 14 free throws for C-M (2-6, 7-9).

Nick Castlelveter led Moon with 17 points. Billy Lewis had 15 and Kyle Bondi 14. The Tigers outscored the Big Macs, 35-24 in the final quarter but trailed after three, 36-22.

Brownsville 70, Jefferson-Morgan 62: Noah Brown scored a game-high 31 points to power Brownsville to a 70-62 victory over Jefferson-Morgan in a non-section game.

Andre Smith added 10 for the Falcons (11-6), who outscored the Rockets 18-5 in the fourth quarter.

Rece Henneman led the Rockets (8-8) with 24 points and Jalen Torres added 11.

Ringgold 49, Elizabeth Forward 39: George Martin and Nico Law combined for 28 points to send Ringgold past Elizabeth Forward, 49-39, in a Section 4-AAA game.

Martin and Law each had 14 points for the Rams (3-7, 7-10), who led 26-20 at halftime.

Connor Paoletti led EF (1-9, 5-13) with 11 points. George Prota scored 10.

Trinity 49, Canon-McMillan 44: Mary Dunn scored 13 of her game-high 22 points in the second half to lead Trinity to a 49-44 victory over Canon-McMillan in a non-section game.

Sierra Kotchman added 13 and Rachel Phillis nine for the Hillers (12-5), who outscored the Big Macs 22-9 in the second half.

Cheyenne Trest led CM (10-7) with 11 points and Danielle Parker, who had second-half foul trouble, finished with 10.

Fort Cherry 34, Burgettstown 20: Tina Belly’s 13 points helped Fort Cherry overcome a 1-point third quarter in a 34-20 non-section win over Burgettstown.

Hannah Green added 12 points for the Rangers (7-9), who led 22-11 at the half only to be outscored 4-1 in the third quarter.

Sam Scopel had five points for Burgettstown (9-9).
