Free agent right-hander Ryan Vogelsong reached agreement on a $4 million, one-year deal to stay with the San Francisco Giants, a person with knowledge of the contract said Friday.

Vogelsong’s new deal with the defending World Series champions is pending a physical, the person said, speaking on condition of anonymity because the team hadn’t announced the agreement.

The deal was reached three days after general manager Brian Sabean said Vogelsong was close to joining another team thought to be the Houston Astros.

Vogelsong went 8-13 with a 4.00 ERA in 32 starts last season. The 37-year-old adds depth to a rotation that features ace Madison Bumgarner, Jake Peavy, Tim Hudson, Tim Lincecum and Matt Cain, who is working back from elbow surgery that ended his season in July.

Suzuki to join Marlins: Ichiro Suzuki has decided to play for the Miami Marlins.

Suzuki and the team have agreed to a $2 million, one-year contract, pending a physical, a person with knowledge of the situation told the Associated Press. The person spoke on condition of anonymity Friday because the contract with the 41-year-old outfielder has not been finalized.

Cubs, Fowler agree to 1-year deal: The Cubs and recently acquired outfielder Dexter Fowler have agreed to a $9.5 million, one-year contract, avoiding arbitration.

Fowler, acquired in a trade with Houston this week, made $7.35 million last season, completing an $11.6 million, two-year deal. He asked for $10.8 million in arbitration last week and was offered $8.5 million by the Astros. He is eligible for free agency after the season.

Braves add third OF to group: The Atlanta Braves and outfielder Jonny Gomes agreed Thursday to a one-year contract with a vesting option.

Gomes, who played for Boston and Oakland in 2014, could be part of a left field platoon in a new-look outfield. He could share time with former Yankees prospect Zoilo Almonte, a switch-hitter who signed as a free agent.
