Taylor Cortazzo had 19 points as 14 Washington & Jefferson players scored in a 82-51 Presidents’ Athletic Conference victory over visiting Chatham Saturday in a women’s college basketball game.

Valerie Dunlap added 12 points and 10 rebounds in just 17 minutes as the Presidents (9-3, 15-4) built a commanding 40-22 halftime lead. Fort Cherry High School graduate Bekka Bellhy just missing a double-double in 18 minutes, scoring nine points and grabbing nine rebounds.

Jess Hinkle had 12 points, while Megan Sieg and Nikki Ingel scored 10 each for Chatham (2-10, 5-14).

Waynesburg 69, Grove City 64: Heather Davis scored 13 points and Waynesburg overcame a cold-shooting second half to hold off Grove City, 69-64, in a PAC game.

Chartiers-Houston graduate Addy Knetzer added 12 points and a team-high seven rebounds for the Yellow Jackets, who built a 41-31 halftime lead, making 17-of-33 field goal attempts.

Waynesburg, however, was 8 for 27 from the field in the second half, allowing Grove City (5-7, 7-12) to take a 64-63 lead with 1:10 remaining in the game. But a Davis layup and a pair of free throws each from Rebecca Kerr and Knetzer helped the Yellow Jackets (7-4, 10-9) hold on.

Kelsey Shirey had 22 points to lead Grove City, while Cayley McClean added 12 points in the losing effort.

Edinboro 68, California 59: The battle for the six spots from the West Division in the PSAC’s basketball tournament later this month got a lot more interesting in a span of a few hours Saturday.

Edinboro, which held down the final spot, opened the second half with a 16-6 run and went on to a 68-59 victory over California at the Convocation Center.

The win pulls Edinboro (8-8, 11-9) into a tie for fifth place with Cal (8-8, 12-9). Pitt-Johnstown (7-9, 10-10) upset Slippery Rock earlier in the day and trails the Vulcans and Fighting Scots by one game.

California, which remains winless in Saturday home games, continued a trend of slow starts on its home court, falling behind 29-23 at halftime. The Vulcans shot only 36 percent in the first half and made just four of nine free throws in the first 20 minutes.

Edinboro hit Cal with a big run to open the second half and led 43-29 with 12:47 remaining. The Vulcans switched to a full-court press that got them back in the game and gave Edinboro fits down the stretch. A jumper by Drew Cook pulled Cal to within 60-55 with 1:16 to play but that was as close as the Vulcans could get.

Casey Baker, Edinboro’s burly power forward, scored all six of his points in the game’s final minute, twice being left alone behind the Cal press for easy layups.

Henri Wade-Chatman, the PSAC’s leading scorer, led Edinboro with 15 points, four below his average. Jaymon Mason followed with 13 points and Will Marrow had 11.

Point guard Khalil Jabbie paced Cal with 22 points and Jake Jacubec had 11. Richard Smith had a huge game on the boards, grabbing a game-high 19 rebounds.

Waynesburg 69, Grove City 55: Kenny Klase’s 13 points helped Waynesburg to a 69-55 PAC victory at Grove City.

Thomas Ellis had 13 points off the bench for Waynesburg, while Jacob Fleegle and BJ Durham added 11 points each for the Yellow Jackets (7-4, 11-9), who built a 41-24 halftime lead by holding Grove City (3-8, 8-12) to just 31 percent shooting in the first 20 minuntes.

Mitch Marmelstein led all scorers with 19 points for Grove City, which also got 12 points each from Brian Giesler and J.T. Schwartz.
