Chamberlain lifts Pride to win over Rebellion
MAUMEE, Ohio – The NCAA’s all-time home runs leader is starting to make her mark as a professional. It came at the expense of the Pennsylvania Rebellion Friday night at Ned Skeldon Stadium.
Lauren Chamberlain, who finished her collegiate career with a record 95 home runs at the University of Oklahoma and was the top pick of the NPF draft, hit a two-run homer to lift the USSSA Pride over the Rebellion, 4-0, in Maumee, Ohio.
The victory lifts the Pride (11-6) to within two games of first-place Chicago, while Pennsylvania (5-14) remains in last place in the five-team lead. Chamberlain’s two-run shot in the bottom of the fifth inning was only the second home run of her career, but it gave USSSA a 4-0 lead.
Rebellion pitcher Dallas Escobedo held the Pride scoreless until Megan Wiggins hi a solo home run in the third and Chelsea Goodacre added a two-out RBI double for an early 2-0 advantage.
Chelsea Thomas earned the win for USSSA, and Allyson Fournier relieved Escobedo to pitch a perfect sixth inning.
