CANADIAN LAKES, Mich. – Rachel Rohanna continued her bid toward an LPGA Tour card Friday afternoon with another memorable start to a tournament.

Rohanna, a Waynesburg High School graduate, shot a 7-under-par 65 and sits in a tie for second place after round one of the Symetra Tour’s Tullymore Classic at Tullymore Golf Resort. The tournament will conclude tomorrow.

Rohanna had four birdies on the front-nine and held a substantial lead over the field heading to the 18th hole, where she ran into trouble. The former two-time PIAA champion finished the day with a double bogey on the par-5. On the back-nine, Rohanna added three birdies and an eagle on No. 16. She hit 10 of 13 fairways, but one hole cost her the lead.

Daniela Iacobelli, one of the top players on the Symetra Tour, rallied to take first place into day two after shooting an 8-under-par 64, which included eight birdies. Rohanna, a graduate of Ohio State University, is tied with Chie Arimura of Japan.

The Tullymore Classic, one of four new events on the Symetra Tour, features 144 up-and-coming professionals for a tournament purse of $100,000. Rohanna currently is sixth on the tour’s money list and the top 10 earn their LPGA membership for the 2016 season.
