Trinity graduate will be inducted into hall of fame
Kathy Parker, a Trinity High School graduate who worked at The Meadows racetrack, will be inducted into the Communicators Hall of Fame by the United States Harness Writers Association during a ceremony tomorrow at the Harness Racing Museum and Hall of Fame in Groshen, N.Y.
Parker, who graduated with a degree in journalism from the University of Kentucky in 1982, is the longtime editor and general manger of The Horseman and Fair World magazine, www.harnessracing.com and “Harness Racing Weekend Preview.”
Parker was born in Cincinnati, Ohio until her family moved to Washington, where her father, Dwane, set up a stable at The Meadows. During her summers in college, Parker worked as a publicity assistant to Tom Rooney at The Meadows, where she interviewed Mary Lib Miller about the Adios.
While attending college in 1980, Parker began working for The Horseman and Fair World as an associate editor, where she has spent her entire career. During her tenure with the publication, Parker has expanded efforts, including a website and an e-newsletter. She has reported on the sport’s top events across the world.
Parker’s honors include a Hervey Award for excellence in writing, the Harness Horsemen’s International Media Award and the Kentucky Harness Horsemen’s Media Award.
A longtime member of the United States Harness Writers Association, Parker recently served six years as a member of the organization’s Hall of Fame screening committee.
