EUGENE, Ore. – Shawn Johnson, a graduate of Canon-McMillan, tied for eighth place in the high jump Friday night at the NCAA Division I Track Championships.

Johnson, a junior at Auburn, cleared 7-1.

Jacorian Duffied of Texas Tech won the event after clearing 7-5 3/4.

In the triple jump, Johnson finished in 14th place with a 52-2 3/4 effort.

Marquis Dendy of Florida won the event with a record 58-1 1/4 jump.

Meanwhile, Canadian Andre DeGrasse of USC swept the sprints with a pair of exceedingly fast, if wind-aided, times and host Oregon won its second straight men’s team title.

In a span of 55 minutes in the meet’s compacted schedule, DeGrasse won the 100 in 9.75 seconds and the 200 in 19.58. His 200 time was the fastest ever by a collegiate runner under any conditions.

Marquis Denby of Texas A&M dominated the triple jump, winning with a wind-aided 58 feet, 1 1/4 inches. He also won the long jump on Wednesday, his second straight victory in the two events.

Oregon wrapped up its day with a 1-2-4 finish in the 5,000 – Edward Cheserek and Eric Jenkins going first and second, as they did in the 10,000 two days earlier.
