Four wrestlers qualify for nationals

Washington & Jefferson College’s Nick Carr won the title at 157 pounds at the NCAA Div. III Mideast Regional at York College Sunday at to qualify for the wrestling National Championships later this month.

Carr is a South Fayette High School graduate who finished second at the national championships last season.

He will be joined at the NCAA Championships, which will be held in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, March 14-15, by teammate Jacob Spearman, who finished third at 133 pounds, and Waynesburg University’s Luke Lohr, who was second at 149, and Sam Guidi, a Fort Cherry High School graduate, who was third at 165.

Carr, a junior, ran his record to 28-0, with a 9-3 decision in the finals over John Garrison of Mount Union.

Spearman pinned Sal Corrao of John Carroll in 4:36 in the consolation final.

Lohr dropped a 4-2 decision to top-seeded Dan Mirman of John Carroll in the 149-pound finals.

Guidi knocked off Myles Wright of Heidelberg, 4-3, in the consolation finals.
