High school baseball: Perfect start for Clark, Jefferson-Morgan
Senior pitcher Austin Clark pitched a three-inning perfect game Wednesday afternoon and Jefferson-Morgan opened its season with a 15-0 victory over visiting Geibel Catholic.
Clark struck out eight of the nine batters he faced. The only Geibel hitter to put the ball in play against Clark hit a comebacker to the mound and was thrown out at first base.
The Rockets scored 11 runs in the bottom of the first inning as losing pitcher Kyle Toth retired only one batter. Aaron Weaver had a bases-loaded triple for J-M’s big hit.
• Junior Nolan Kosh hit a one-out, walk-off RBI single to lift Yough over Trinity, 5-4, in a nine-inning non-section game.
The Hillers (1-2) led 4-2 entering the bottom of the seventh inning until junior Matt Huss hit a two-run single to left field to send the game into extra innings. Dom Neff, who took the loss for Trinity, had the team’s lone extra-base hit. Neff, Blake Rohrbacher, Garrett Briant and Logan Defillippo knocked in runs for the Hillers.
Shane Fajt earned the win for Yough (3-0).
• Sophomore Sam Miceli hit a triple and drove in four runs as Charleroi defeated Southmoreland, 9-0, in a non-section game.
Josh Sidary earned the victory with four strikeouts in six innings, while allowing just three hits and walking three. The Cougars (1-1) grabbed a 6-0 lead after the second inning. Jesse Andrechek closed out the game for Charleroi.
