High school baseball roundup: Wash High wins 2-AA opener
Washington scored the game’s first seven runs and defeated host Beth-Center 7-2 Monday in the Section 2-AA opener.
Winning pitcher Kevin Patterson and two relievers combined on a four-hitter for the Prexies (1-0, 1-1). Leadoff hitter Chris Gouin was 3-for-5 with a double, the game’s only extra-base hit.
Beth-Center, which had six errors, was playing its season opener.
• California just keeps on rolling. The Trojans had 11 hits and scored in every inninbg during a 17-0 non-section victory over host Charleroi.
California improved to 4-0. The Trojans have scored 65 runs in those games and allowed just 11.
Aaron previsky led California by going 3-for-3 with a home run, four RBI and four runs. Johnn Defranco was 2-for-2 and scored four times, Nathan Luketich drove in three runs and Paul Peters hit a two-run double.
Starting pitcher Garit Woodburn and reliever Chris Swartz combined on a two-hitter.
Charleroi’s record is 1-2.
• Santino Paris went 4-for-4 with a home run and 4 RBI as Avella defeated Mapletown, 16-6, in a non-section game.
Luke Lloyd earned the victory for the Eagles (2-0) after striking out four over three innings. Avella took an 8-1 lead after the second inning after Paris’ two-run home run and the Eagles scattered 16 hits over five innings, while Mapletown (0-2) was held to three hits and committed four errors.
• Albert Gallatin rallied from a 3-2 deficit to take a 5-3 win from Waynesburg in a non-section game.
Winning pitcher Nick Groover struck out four and hit a triple for AG (2-0).
Hunter Robinson and Joel Rohanna each a triple for Waynesburg (1-2). Robinson is 6-for-8 this season, with three triples, two doubles and one home run.
• Chartiers-Houston scored 10 runs int he fourth inning to take a 10-0 win in five innings from Frazier in Section 2-AA.
T.J. Johnson hit two doubles and drove in a run for C-H (1-0, 1-3). Matt Whitfield had two hits and two RBI and Ryan James went 2-for-3 and drove in three runs.
• Mt. Lebanon ace pitcher Austin Kitchen struck out 10 batters to lead the Blue Devils past Canon-McMillan, 6-2, in a Section 5-AAAA game.
Kitchen walked four and allowed just four hits and Mt. Lebanon (1-0, 3-1) had 12 hits. Tanner Piechnick had a double for the Big Macs (0-1, 2-2) and Connor Coleman had an RBI. Canon-McMillan committed five errors.
• Medina scored four runs in the first three innings and held on for a 6-4 victory over Peters Township at Historic Doddgertown in Vero Beach, Fla.
Lucas Goehler earned the victory for Medina, which had nine hits. Kyle Lewis went 3-3 and had three runs for the Indians (4-2), who drew within two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, but came up short.
• Winning pitcher Chris O’Malley hit a three-run homer in the first inning and Nathan Slenska drove in four runs as Avonworth defeated visiting Fort Cherry 10-0 in a five-inning Section 1-AA game.
Cole Pappas hit a two-run homer and Jay Knable had a triple for Avonworth (1-0, 2-0).
Fort Cherry )-1, 0-1) was held to one hit, a single by Hunter Douglas.
