Softball: Chartiers-Houston dominates previously unbeaten Sewickley Academy
Chartiers-Houston knocked off the last remaining undefeated team in Class A.
The Bucs used a six-hitter by pitcher Kaitlyn Dittrich and a big game at the plate by Macie Kesneck to defeat Section 5-A champion Sewickley Academy, 7-1, Monday in a non-section game.
C-H (16-2) broke a 1-1 tie by scoring four runs in the fourth inning and adding two insurance runs in the sixth.
Kesneck was 3-for-3 with a triple and two RBI for the Bucs. Sabrina Stankus contributed a double.
Sewickley Academy (9-0, 10-1) had a double by Chandler White.
• Hannah Gibbons had a double and a grand slam, driving in six runs, as Waynesburg kept its playoff hopes alive with a 13-3 victory over Washington in Section 2-AA, the second of two games for the Raiders Monday.
Tiffany Ross had two doubles, while Breanna Scott and Gabby Rose each added one for the Raiders (7-6, 8-10), who need a win over first-place Carmichaels and a Bentworth loss to Charleroi to gain a playoff spot. Emma Ricciutti was the winning pitcher.
• Winning pitcher Taylor Staley also doubled as Waynesburg topped Charleroi, 10-5), in a Section 2-AA game.
Emily Ricciutti also doubled for Waynesburg.
Morgan Riley hit a three-run homer, while Jen Tighlman took the loss for Charleroi (4-9, 5-10).
• Bailey Kormick’s double drove in Mikayla Fetchett to lift South Fayette to a 3-2 Section 2-AAA win over Chartiers Valley.
Fetchett had two doubles and Ashley Iagnemma was the winning pitcher for South Fayette (6-4, 11-7), which clinched second place in the section.
• Mapletown overcame an early six-run deficit and defeated visiting Turkeyfoot 11-9 in a non-section game.
Turkeyfoot led 6-0 in the second inning, but Mapletown scored battled back and took an 11-8 lead with a four-run fifth inning.
Makenzie Cree had a two-run double for Mapletown and teammate Jordan Adams had a run-scoring double. Abby McIntire was the winning pitcher.
