Softball: Three-run bunt sparks South Fayette win

1 min read

South Fayette prepared for the Class AAA playoffs with a 7-2 victory over visiting Moon Thursday.

Winning pitcher Ashley Iagnemma threw a four-hitter and helped her cause by hitting two doubles.

The score was tied 2-2 before South Fayette (12-7) scored five times in the fifth. The Lions scored three of those runs on a bunt by Courtney Blocker and an ensuing error.

• Beth-Center scored in every inning but the second and took advantage of 16 walks by Avella pitching to defeat the host Eagles 16-6 in a non-section game.

B-C (6-9) broke open a 5-5 with a five-run fourth inning and held Avella (2-13) to one run the rest of the way. Winning pitcher Abby Gustovich struck out eight and threw a four-hitter. She also hit one of B-C’s three doubles. Londyn Brown and Paige Moore had the other doubles.
