Iagnemma lifts South Fayette softball to win over Mars
Ashley Iagnemma tossed a complete game with six strikeouts and had four hits to lead South Fayette past Mars, 3-1, in a WPIAL Class AAA first-round playoff game at Hampton High School Wednesday.
The Lions (13-7), who return to the quarterfinals for the second consecutive season, will face top-seeded Belle Vernon (17-2), Tuesday at a site and time to be determined. The Planets’ season ends with a 10-7 overall record.
Iagnemma, a Point Park recruit, was a home run short of hitting for the cycle with two singles, a double, a triple and an RBI. Courtney Blocker added two hits, including a triple.
Mohawk 15, Bentworth 5: Mohawk defeated Bentworth, 15-5, in the first round of the WPIAL Class AA playoffs.
The Warriors (14-0) advance to the quarterfinals to face Carmichaels, while the Bearcats’ season ends with a 11-10 overall record.

Neshannock 7, Waynesburg 0: Frank Fraschetti threw a three-hit shutout as Neshannock defeated Waynesburg, 7-0, in a Class AA first-round game at the Burkett Complex.
Fraschetti struck out eight and did not issue a walk as the Lancers improved their record to 13-5. Franchetti allowed only three Waynesburg baserunners.
Hunter Robinson threw a complete game for Waynesburg (10-6), striking out three.
Neshannock scored two runs in the third inning to take a 3-0 lead, then tacked on two runs in the fifth and three runs on two hits and two Waynesburg errors in the bottom of the sixth.
