PT’s Riske advances at Strasbourg

Peters Township native Alison Riske won her opening-round match at the Strasbourg International women’s singles tournament Monday in France, upsetting No. 5 seed Zarina Diyas in the tuneup for the French Open.

Riske, who is ranked 46th in the ATP, defeated Diyas, of Khazistan, who is ranked ranked 32nd, 7-5, 4-6, 6-1, to advance to the second round.

Riske will now face France’s Kristina Mladenovic in the second roumd Wednesday. Mladenovic, who is ranked 54th in the world, defeated Pauline Parmentier in three sets Monday.

The French Open is scheduled to begin May 24.

Riske has previously played in the French Open four times, including last year when she won her opening-round match against Mirjana Lucic-Baroni before losing to Mladenovic, 7-5, 3-6, 6-3 in the Round of 64.
