Chartiers-Houston falls to Jeannette

JEANNETTE – Jeannette broke open a close game at the half with 14 points in the third quarter, beating Chartiers-Houston, 27-7, in the opening round of the WPIAL Class A playoffs Friday night.

Tyrone Wormsley gave the Bucs (5-5) a 7-0 lead in the first quarter when he hauled in a 65-yard touchdown pass from T.J. Johnson.

Jeannette (9-1) tied the game on a 44-yard run by Jefferson Jones and then took a 13-7 lead at the half on a 27-yard TD run in the second quarter by Swade Redman.

Redman scored again on a run in the third quarter and Giovonne Sanders threw a 15-yard TD pass to Mark Womack, but the Jayhawks, who were held to a season-low in points, struggled against the Bucs defense, putting up 344 total yards.

Chartiers-Houston was stopped three times in the red zone without points as Johnson completed 9 of 31 passes for 139 yards. Wormley had 100 total yards, catching four passes for 88 yards and rushing eight times for another 27.
