Miami signs Hull to 53-man roster
The wait is over for former Canon-McMillan High School star Mike Hull.
Hull was signed by the Miami Dolphins Saturday to their 53-man roster prior to the team’s game in Philadelphia at 1 p.m. Sunday. He had previously been on the team’s practice squad after signing with the Dolphins as an undrafted rookie in the spring.
After a standout career at Canon-McMillan, Hull played at Penn State where he finished his career ranked sixth in school history with 294 career tackles.
In his senior season, Hull was named the Big Ten Conference’s best linebacker when he recorded 140 tackles, including 10.5 for a loss, two sacks, one interception, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.
Hull, 24, is the first player from Washington or Greene counties on an active NFL roster since 1999, when the Ringgold duo of Anthony Peterson and Scott Zolak played their final seasons in the league.
Peterson, a linebacker, played six NFL seasons, five with San Francisco and one with Chicago, retiring in 1999 with the 49ers.
Zolak, who currently serves as a color commentator for the New England Patriots radio broadcast, spent nine seasons in the NFL. He played with the Patriots from 1991 through 1998 before spending parts of the 1999 season with the Jets and Dolphins.
Hull is now a second generation NFL player. His father, Tom, a Uniontown High School graduate, was selected in the 1974 draft by the San Francisco 49ers. He also played for the Green Bay Packers in 1975.
To make room on the roster for Hull, the Dolphins released defensive tackle A.J. Francis.
