The NCAA has compliance questions regarding the NCAA Division III women’s basketball defending national champions.

Thomas More President David Armstrong released a statement Wednesday evening stating that the college is reviwing a NCAA compliance question within the program and as a result, it will withold senior guard/forward Sydney Moss from competition during an internal review. Moss, the daughter of former NFL wide receiver Randy Moss, averaged 24.2 points per game last season to help the Saints win the national championship.

“The College’s decision to withold Sydney from competition at this time should in no way by construed as an indication of a NCAA rules violation by Sydney,” Armstrong said in a statement. “The College is unable to further comment on this matter during the period of review. We look forward to publicly discussing the matter at the conclusion of the review.”

Moss was recognized by DIII News as the preseason National Player of the Year and was named a preseason All-American by D3hoops.com for the second year in a row. She led the nation in points per game last season and ranked third in triple doubles with one in the championship game. Moss also led the team with 7.6 rebounds per game and she broke the NCAA all-division women’s and men’s tournament scoring record with 197 total points in six NCAA tournament games.

The Saints, who finished last season with a 33-0 record, were picked to win the PAC in the preseason poll and they are the top-ranked team in the nation.
