Prexies roll to non-conference win over New Brighton
NEW BRIGHTON – Undefeated Washington broke open a close game by scoring three touchdowns in less than two minutes late in the first half and rolled to an impressive 49-7 victory Friday night over host New Brighton in a non-conference game.
Washington (7-0) led 14-7 before the Prexies’ Markel Pulliam threw a 36-yard touchdown pass to Isaiah Schoonmaker with only 1:54 left in the first half to increase the advantage to 21-7. Before the half ended, Wash High tacked on two more touchdowns, on a 39-yard pass from Pulliam to Jarell Dates and a 35-yard interception return by Pulliam with only 18 seconds remaining in the half.
Pulliam opened the scoring with an 11-yard TD run in the first quarter and scored the final TD on an eight-yard scamper early in the fourth quarter.
Wash High’s Jordan West rushed for 139 yards on only 11 carries and had a 17-yard run early in the second quarter that made it 14-0.
Kurt Adkins (100 yards on 10 carries) had a 63-yard score in the third quarter.
New Brighton (4-3) pulled to within 14-7 on a 5-yard TD pass with 3:49 left in the first half.
