Southmoreland holds off Waynesburg

WAYNESBURG – Jaden Datz had a 55-yard touchdown run on the first play from scrimmage after Waynesburg pulled to within 14-12 late in the fourth quarter as the Scotties defeated the Raiders, 21-12, Frioday night in an Interstate Conference game.

Johnathan Leighty threw a pair of touchdown passes to Mike Moresea in the first half as Southmoreland (3-3, 3-4) took a 12-6 halftime lead.

But Colin McCracken, who had thrown a 15-yard TD pass to Cole Garrett in the first half, scored on a 62-yard run with 4:46 remaining in the fourth quarter, Datz broke free.

Datz finished with 141 rushing on 18 carries, while Leighty was 9 of 18 for 127 yards, 97 of which went to Moresea, who had six catches.

McCracken passes for 105 yards and rushed for 117 yards on 15 carries.
