Girls soccer: Waynesburg, SF tie; Peters Twp. gets shutout
Waynesburg and South Fayette battled to a 1-1 tie in a non-section match Saturday afternoon between playoff qualifiers.
A goal by Madison Clayton gave visiting Waynesburg a 1-0 lead, but South Fayette scored the tying goal in the second half. Maggie Palm scored on a shot from outside the box.
Waynesburg goalkeeper Josie Evans had a good game as South Fayette had 14 shots on goal. The Raiders finished their regular season with an 11-3-1 record.
South Fayette (12-3-2) will play a non-section game at Bethel Park Monday.
• Peters Township scored two first-half goals and were enough as the Indians closed their regular-season with a 2-0 victory over visiting State College.
Regan LaVigna scored the match’s opening game with 10:51 left in the first half, then assisted on a goal by Mia Toscano with 3:50 remaining before halftime. Caitlyn Ulrich set up LaVigna’s goal.
• Trinity picked up a non-section win at Uniontown, 2-1. The Hillers are 4-11-1 on the season. No game details were reported.
