Bailey Fudala broke up a tie game by scoring a goal with 15 minutes remaining to give Waynesburg its first WPIAL girls soccer playoff victory in school history as the Raiders edged Yough 2-1 in a Class AA first-round match Saturday at Mt. Pleasant.

Sarah Snee gave Waynesburg a 1-0 lead with a goal 12:15 into the match but Jessica Moore’s tally early in the second half for Yough (9-7-2) forced a 1-1 tie.

Fudala’s goal came after a scramble in the box and sent Waynesburg (12-3-1) into the quarterfinals Wednesday against top-seeded Mars (14-2) at a site and time to be determined. Mars received a first-round bye.

Goalkeeper Josey Evans made six saves in goal for Waynesburg.

“It was windy, then it was rainy in the second half, but with those conditions and all the jitters, we played very well,” said Waynesburg coach Joe Kijowski.

Peters Township 2, Pine-Richland 0: Peters Township went on the road and defeated Pine-Richland on the Rams’ home field in a Class AA first-round match.

Maggie Simon scored an unassisted goal with 21:53 left in the first half and that was all the offense PT (14-4) needed as goalkepper Riley McGlumphy stopped six shots.

Mia Toscano took a cross from Madeline LaVigna and found the net to give the Indians a 2-0 lead 20:48 remaining.

Peters Township advances to the quarterfinals and will play No. 4 seed and defending WPIAL champion Seneca Valley on Wednesday.

South Fayette 5, Freeport 0: Brenna McGuire scored three goals and goalkeeper Natalier Caraway had the shutout as third-seeded South Fayette defeated No. 14 Freeport, 5-0, in a Class AA first-round playoff match.

The Lions (13-4-2) advanced to the quarterfinals, where they will face sixth-seeded Mt. Pleasant (14-2-2) Wednesday at a site and time to be determined. Rachel Helbling and Rachel Weiss also scored for South Fayette, which played Mt. Pleasant to a 1-1 draw earlier this month.
