Thomas More sinks Waynesburg
CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. – Undefeated Thomas More played Saturday without its starting quarterback, Jensen Gebhardt, and leading rusher, C.T. Tarrant, but the Saints had more than enough offensive firepower to handle Waynesburg.
Quarterback Brenan Kuntz passed for 312 yards and four touchdowns as Thomas More cruised to a 42-13 victory in a Presidents’ Athletic Conference game.
Thomas More (7-0, 9-0, ranked No. 11 in NCAA Division III, will play Case Western Reserve (6-0, 7-1) next weekend in Cleveland.
The Saints led 21-0 at halftime as Kuntz, who completed 16 of 22 passes, threw for three scores in the opening half. Kuntz connected Colin Justice from four yards to give Thomas More a 7-0 lead after one quarter. A 55-yard TD pass to Tyler Vogelpohl made it 14-0 in the second quarter. Kuntz then hooked up wide receiver Goose Cohorn on an 89-yard touchdown that tied the Thomas More school record for longest scoring pass.
Cohorn, who had five catches for 166 yards, hauled in a 36-yard touchdown from Kuntz in the third quarter that made it 28-0.
Waynesburg (2-5, 3-6) finally scored when tailback Jerry Lawman ran 22 yards to the end zone to make it 35-6 late in the third quarter. Lawman had a good game, gaining 137 yards on 33 carries. Thomas More had been allowing only 103 rushing yards per game.
Waynesburg’s final score came late in the fourth quarter when quarterback Jake Dougherty passed three yards to Joe Malta.
