W&J pulls away for victory at Geneva
BEAVER FALLS – Pete Coughlin passed for 351 yards and three touchdowns Saturday night as Washington & Jefferson clinched its 32nd consecutive winning football season with a 34-13 victory over Geneva in a Presidents’ Athletic Conference game at Reeves Field.
W&J (4-2, 6-2) led 13-10 at halftime, getting a 25-yard field goal by Ted Ford in the closing seconds of the half to take the lead for good. The Presidents then took control early in the second half with two touchdown passes by Coughlin., a 70-yarder to Asa Costelnock and a four-yarder to Eric Scott.
Coughlin threw a 61-yard TD pass to Jesse Zubik in the fourth quarter.
W&J’s Ryan Ruffing rushed for 138 yards on 30 carries and scored on a three-yard run in the first half.
Geneva 1-5 in conference play and 2-6 overall. The Golden Tornadoes have lost five in a row.
