Shipley sets record as Burgettstown beats Waynesburg
BURGETTSTOWN – Jacob Shipley caught five passes for 182 yards and three touchdowns, breaking a school record that had stood for more than 60 years, as Burgettstown opened the high school football season with a 35-8 Interstate Conference victory over Waynesburg.
Shipley, a 6-2, 185-pound senior, broke the record of 156 receiving yards set in 1953 by John Kinkela.
His scoring receptions covered 65, 10 and 74 yards as Burgettstown (1-0, 1-0) jumped out to a 28-0 lead through three quarters.
Quarterback Bradley McLaughlin completed 10-of-13 passes for 226 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. He also rushed for 41 yards, including a 25-yard TD run in the third quarter. Shane Tennant scored on a 15-yard run for the final score for the Blue Devils.
Hunter Robinson scored on a 4-yard run in the fourth quarter for Waynesburg (0-1, 0-1).
