Boys soccer: C-M stays unbeaten; Trinity rallies for win
Canon-McMillan received goals from five different players Tuesday and remained undefeated with a 5-0 victory over Brashear in the Section 5-AAA opener at Cupples Stadium.
Nick Sodini had a goal and two assists to lead the Big Macs (1-0, 5-0). Brandon Byer and Luke Maher eached scored a goal and assisted on another, and Jonah Moore and Rob Lawrence scored the other goals. Kepper Christian Snatchko had his third shutout of the season.
Brashear is 0-1, 0-2.
• Trinity overcame a halftime deficit by scoring two goals in a six-minute stretch to defeat Laurel Highlands 2-1 in a Section 6-AA at Hiller Field.
Laurel Highlands took a 1-0 lead on a first-half goal by Garrett Kopich, the first goal allowed this season by Trinity (1-0-1, 2-0-1). Nick McCarrell scored Trinity’s first goal with 13 minutes remaining, then Tyler Styperk rifled in a shot from 20 yards with seven minutes remaining to give the Hillers the lead.
Laurel Highlands is 1-2 in section, 2-2-2 overall.
• Peters Township and Moon battled to a scoreless tie in two overtims ina Section 5-AAA match. Justin Gamble stopped eight shots for PT (0-0-1, 3-1-2) and Brett Frank had five saves for Moon (0-0-1, 1-2-2).
• Will Bashioum stopped seven shots to help Bentworth shut out Charleroi 3-0 in Section 4-A.
Chad Gurdish, Darius Hays and Jacob Davis each had a goal for the Bearcats (3-0, 3-2-1). Charleroi fell to 2-1 in the section.
