Tiger Woods has second surgery on back

1 min read

Tiger Woods had a second microdiscectomy surgery on his back this week.

Woods said Friday on his website that he had surgery Wednesday in Park City, Utah.

Woods said: “This is certainly disappointing, but I’m a fighter. I’ve been told I can make a full recovery, and I have no doubt that I will.”

Dr. Charles Rich performed the operation and also the first procedure in March 2014.

Rich said: “With the upcoming offseason, the decision was made to remove a small disc fragment that was pinching his nerve. The microsurgery was a complete success, and he was discharged Thursday night.”

Winless this season, Woods failed to qualify for the PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup playoffs. He’s had committed to play in the season-opening Frys.com Open on Oct. 15-18 at Silverado in California, but the surgery could force him to skip the event.
