Boys soccer: Bentworth blanks B-C in 4-A showdown

Senior Chad Gurdish scored two goals – one in each half – and Bentworth extended its winning streak to five games Thursday with a 2-0 victory over host Beth-Center in a matchup of the top teams in Section 4-A.

Bentworth (6-0, 7-2-1) has won seven of its last eight. Beth-Center (4-2, 4-3) had its three-game winning streak snapped.

Bentworth goalkeeper Will Bashioum stopped six B-C shots for Bentworth’s fifth shutout of the season.

• Senior Austin Riggle scored two goals to lead Chartiers-Houston to its first victory of the season 3-0 over host Washington in Section 3-A.

Sophomore Joey Dunn also scored a goal for C-H (0-6, 1-8-1). Goalkeeper Tommy Dzodovsky kept Wash High (1-05, 1-6) off the scoreboard.

• Nick Aul had a pair of goals as South Fayette remained unbeaten in Section 6-AA with a 4-0 win over West Allegheny.

Priamo Pershietti and Joaldy Guerra also scored for South Fayette (6-0, 8-1).

West Allegheny falls to 3-1-1, 6-1-1.

• Waynesburg scored two second-half goals and pulled away for a 3-1 victory over visiting Brownsville in Section 6-AA.

The win was the second in a row for Waynesburg (2-3-1, 2-4-2). Will Behm, Blake Brewer and Cody Grandas.

Justin Stanislaw was the only player for Brownsville (0-6, 1-6) to get a shot past Waynesburg goalkeeper Nick Fox.
