Burgettstown’s McLaughlin has record-setting performance
CHARLEROI – Brad McLaughlin passed for 330 yards and five touchdowns, ran for two more and led Burgettstown to 62-18 victory over winless Charleroi Friday night in the Interstate Conference.
The yardage total broke the school record of 293 set in 1953 by Mickey Trimarki. The touchdown passes tied a school record set in 1952, also by Trimarki.
The 62 points ties the Burgettstown single-game record. The Blue Devils scored 62 in a win over McGuffey in 1931.
McLaughlin threw TD passes of nine and 30 yards to Ryan Louder, 20 and 19 yards to Brandon Sell and 32 yards to Kody Baldwin. He completed 17 of 31 passes, scored on runs of 1 and 9 yards, helping Burgettstown (2-2, 2-2) forge a 41-18 lead. Sell caught five passes for 108 yards and capped the scoring by returning an interception 44 yards for a touchdown.
Brock Shannon rushed for 220 yards and two scores on 33 carries for Charleroi (0-4, 0-4). Shannon opened the scoring on a 59-yard run and added a three-yard score in the second quarter that cut the Blue Devils’ lead to 20-12.
