Softball: Geordt delivers as South Fayette edges Canon-Mac
Olivia Geordt’s one-out, two-run single in bottom of the seventh inning Friday gave South Fayette a 6-5 non-section victory over Canon-McMillan.
Geordt’s single capped off a four-run inning for the Lions (3-2), who trailed 5-2 entering the seventh. Sara Jubas had four hits, including a double, while winning pitcher Bailey Kormick also had three hits for South Fayette.
Kirsten Rush and Kayla Hopkins both tripled for Canon-McMillan (3-1), while Katelyn Greaves doubled.
Carmichaels 10, Jefferson-Morgan 9: Winning pitcher Laura Walker, Megan Walker and Morgan Faddis each homered as Carmichaels outslugged host Jefferson-Morgan, 10-9, in a non-section game.
Laura Walker and Natalie McNett also tripled, while Emma Lowry doubled for the Mikes (2-4).
Brooke Diamond and Kayla Yorko homered, while Autum Tedrow and Morgan Simkovec had two doubles each for Jefferson-Morgan (0-2). Losing pitcher Camryn Dugan and Maddie Van Divner also had doubles for the defending WPIAL Class A champions.
Mapletown 11, Turkeyfoot 1: Taylor Vanata hit a two-run homer and Macee Chesney tripled to lead Mapletown to an 11-1 five-inning victory over Turkeyfoot in a non-section game.
Winning pitcher Abby McIntrye allowed just two hits for Mapletown (1-2).

Monessen 9, Chartiers-Houston 5: Could this be the year for Monessen in Class A?
Monessen scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to rally for a 9-5 victory over visiting Chartiers-Houston in a non-section game.
The Greyhounds (3-1) have defeated both of last year’s WPIAL Class A finalists, Jefferson-Morgan and Chartiers-Houston. Monessen lone loss was a one-run contest against Class AA Charleroi in the season opener.
Monessen trailed 5-3 before scoring a run in the fifth and taking advantage of four of Chartiers-Houston’s eight errors in the pivotal sixth inning. The Greyhounds tied the score on a fielder’s choice and took a 6-5 lead on an RBI-single by Tori Cooper.
Brittany Blumen had two hits, two runs and an RBI for C-H. Dana Vatakis was the winning pitcher in relief. She was 2-for-3 with a double.
Moore Catholic (N.Y.) 4, West Greene 3: West Greene came up short in the bottom of the seventh inning and dropped a 4-3 game to Moore Catholic out of Staten Island, N.Y., at the Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
The loss was the first of the season for West Greene (3-1), which stranded baserunners on second and third in the bottom of the seventh.
Bailey Bennington led West Greene’s seven-hit attack by going 2-for-4 with a double and solo home run. Losing pitcher Madison Renner was 2-for-4 with a double. Renner gave up seven hits and struck out three. She did not issue a walk.
Kaitlyn Rizor made it four straight games to start her varsity career with at least one extra-base hit as she smacked an inside-the-park homer in the sixth.
Moore Catholic did all its scoring in the third inning to take a 4-0 lead.
Belle Vernon 11, Uniontown 1: Belle Vernon ran its winning streak to three with an 11-1 five-inning victory over visiting Uniontown in a non-section game.
Belle Vernon (3-2) did all its scoring over the final three innings. Winning pitcher Bailey Parshall threw a three-hitter with 10 strikeouts. Erica Amoroso had a triple and three RBI to lead the Leopards’ at the plate and Parshall helped her cause with two hits.
