Baseball: California dealt first loss

Union scored two runs in the seventh inning to deal California its first loss of the season, 7-5, in a non-section game Saturday afternoon.

Nate Luketich had a double and two RBI for California (4-1). Brandon Powell was the losing pitcher.

Fort Cherry 11, Avella 3: Jacob Baird doubled and drove in three runs as Fort Cherry won for the third time in four games, defeating visiting Avella, 11-3, in a non-section game.

The Rangers (3-1) scored in every inning except the sixth. Mike Coyne and Nate Higham each had a double among the Rangers’ 10 hits that backed the winning pitching of Cole Clark.

Tyler Fraysier had a big day for Avella (0-3), going 3-for-4 with two doubles and a home run. Garrett Geresti hit a triple.
