Softball: Bentworth’s victory is an inside job

Micaela Danley’s three-run, inside-the-park homer highlighted a four-run seventh inning for Bentworth as the Bearcats beat Beth-Center, 5-1, Wednesday in Section 2-AA.

Autumn Zglorlski had a triple for the Bearcats (1-0, 4-1) to back a solid pitching effort from Casey Hite, who struck out five and did not issue a walk.

Losing pitcher Abby Gustovich and Londyn Brown each doubled for Beth-Center (0-3, 0-3).

Canon-McMillan 11, Bethel Park 4: Linda Rush, Julia Ciotti and Kayla Hopkins drove in two runs each to pace Canon-McMillan’s 11-run seventh inning in a come-from-behind 11-4 Section 4-AAAA win over Bethel Park on the road.

Hopkins went 4-for-5 with two doubles, while Rush and Brittney Crawford both had three hits for the Big Macs (3-0, 5-1), who had 20 hits. The Black Hawks (2-2, 5-3) stranded nine on base.

Burgettstown 13, Carlynton 0: Kate Tarr threw a no-htter and Tori Carnes drove in three runs to lift Burgettstown to a 13-0 win over Carlynton in a Section 1-AA game.

Tarr, who had 11 strikeouts, had a perfect game with two outs in the seventh inning before the Blue Devils (1-0, 3-2) committed an error. Carnes hit two triples.

Carlynton (1-3, 1-4) lost its second straight.

Ringgold 11, McKeesport 10: Lauren Gohacki had three doubles and drove in two to push Ringgold to an 11-10 win over McKeespot in Section 4-AAA.

Sam Polaski was the winning pitcher and Natalie Adams scored four times for the Rams (2-0, 3-0), who are two wins from surpassing their win total from their last two seasons combined.

Infinity Wright hit a two-run homer for McKeesport (1-2, 2-3).

Carmichaels 9, Brownsville 6: Carmichaels hit six doubles and held off a late rally to defeat Brownsville 9-6 in Section 2-AA.

Megan Walker and Natalie McNett each had two doubles for the Mikes (3-1, 4-4), who had 13 hits. McNett had three RBI. Tiffany Markovitch tripled for Brownsville (2-2, 3-4).

Charleroi 15, Washington 5: Sarah Kondratik hit a grand slam and Charleroi produced 18 hits in a 15-5 five-inning Section 2-AA win over Washington.

Morgan Riley had four hits, including two doubles, and was a home run shy of the cycle for Charleroi (1-2, 2-2). Kaitlyn McCann was the winning pitcher.

The Prexies (0-3, 0-3) scored five runs on three hits.

West Greene 13, Fort Cherry 0: Bailey Bennington, pitching for the first time this season, threw a three-hitter with nine strikeouts as West Greene blanked Fort Cherry, 13-0, in a five-inning Section 1-A game.

McKenna Lampe had three hits, including a double, and scored three times, and Kaitlyn Rizor doubled for the Pioneers (2-0, 7-1).

Anna LaQuatra doubled for Fort Cherry (0-1, 0-5).

Chartiers-Houston 8, Mapletown 0: Kaitlyn Dittrich threw a three-hit shutout and had a double among her three hits as Chartiers-Houston defeated Mapletown, 8-0, in Section 1-A.

Jaylese Lombardi also had three hits, including a double, and drove in three runs for the Bucs (1-1, 2-3). Kasey Scears and Lauren Lober doubled.

Mapletown is 0-1, 1-3.

In other games: South Fayette edged West Allegheny 5-3, Monessen won its fifth in a row, beating Greensburg Central Catholic 12-0 in five innings, and Peters Township routed Woodland Hills 15-0 in a non-section game. No details were made availble to the Observer-Reporter.
