Baseball: Ringgold walks off with win over EF

Ryan Varley’s single to center field scored Chase Angotti in the bottom of the seventh innning to give Ringgold a 4-3 win over Elizabeth Forward in a Section 4-AAA game.

Matt Morgan was hit by a pitch to lead off the seventh inning and Angotti, who entered as a pinch runner, advanced to third on an error. With the bases loaded, Varley, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, delivered the walk of hit for the Rams (2-2, 3-4) to help Bo Haines earn the win.

Ryan Goettell went 2-for-4 with an RBI for the Warriors (1-2, 1-5).

• Ryan Mele struck out eight to help Chartiers-Houston complete a 4-3 come-from-behind win over Waynesburg in a Section 2-AA game.

Waynesburg (1-2, 2-4) scored three runs in the third inning, including a two-run single by Hunter Robinson, and the Bucs (3-0, 5-1) tied it at one in the fifth on an RBI single by Matt Whitfield, who went 2-for-4 with two runs. C-H took the lead on an RBI single by Ethan Shober and the Raiders stranded two runners on second base in the final two innings.

• Joel Spishock had three hits and drove in three runs as Carmichaels defeated Mapletown 18-0 in a five-inning Section 1-A game.

Mike Ludrosky and Nick Mundell combined to pitch a no-hitter for the Mikes (1-0, 5-0), who scattered 13 hits.

• Casey Zajicek drove in four runs and California scattered 13 hits to earn a 12-2 win over West Greene in a five-inning Section 1-A game.

Johnny DeFranco went 3-for-3 with three runs and two RBI, and Louden Conte also scored three times to help Jacob Swartz earn the win for the Trojans (1-0, 6-1). The Pioneers (0-2, 1-4) scored one run in the third and fifth innings.

• Washington scored five runs in the top of the fifth inning to complete a 7-6 come-from-behind win over Frazier in a Section 2-AA game.

Steve Shallcross went 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI and scored twice, and Kurt Adkins drove in two for the Prexies (2-1, 2-2), who who had 10 hits to overcome four errors.

Logan Mizina went 3-for-4 with a double and a triple for Frazier (0-3, 0-5).

• Justin Ivill hit an RBI triple and scored on a wild pitch in the third inning to give Belle Vernon enough insurance in a 3-1 win over Thomas Jefferson in a Section 4-AAA game.

Jordan Zilka went 2-for-3 with an RBI and Eric Harkins earned the win despite striking out five for the Leopards (3-1, 6-1). The Jaguars (0-3, 2-7) had two hits.

• South Fayette scored six runs in the top of the ninth inning, five coming home on Trinity errors, for a 6-4 victory in a Section 3-AAA game.

Trinity (0-1, 2-4) built a 4-0 lead by scoring two runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth. Tyler Denman had a double and Evan McDaniel a triple. Tristan Tinney knocked in two runs and Richie Dell and Cam Hover each had an RBI for South Fayette (1-0, 2-4).

• Easton Klein’s sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh inning scored Tanner Klein to hand Brentwood a 5-4 win over Avella in Section 5-A game.

Tanner Klein earned the win with two strikeouts for Brentwood (1-0, 4-0), while Avella (0-2, 1-6) was led by Cody Dobbin, who had three hits, including a double.

• Tyler Mitcher and Hunter Neely scored three of the five runs in Bentworth’s 5-1 victory over Jefferson-Morgan in a Section 1-A game.

Mitchell and Neely each had two hits to back the four-hit pitching of Riley Nickeson for Bentworth (3-0, 5-2).

Gage Clark had an RBI-triple for the Rockets (0-1, 3-2).

• South Side Beaver took advantage of seven Burgettstown errors to come away with a 12-1 win over Burgettstown in Section 1-AA.

Jared Conti had a triple and five RBI for SSB (1-2, 3-3) and Mike McCool doubled. Rob Heberle struck 11.

Brandon Sell had an RBI for Burgettstown (0-3, 1-6).

• Freedom scored a run in the bottom of the ninth innning to grab a 6-5 victory over Fort Cherry in a Section 1-AA game.

Fredom (4-0, 5-3) got doubles from Noah Henderson, Nick Henderson, Evan Diciero, and Tim Hampe.

Cam Schaub went 4-for-5 for the Rangers (1-2, 4-3).

• In other games, Baldwin defeated Canon-McMillan 4-2 and Mount Lebanon held off Peters Township 5-4 in Section 5-AAAA. Brownsville defeated Charleroi 1-0 in Section 2-AA and Jeanneate outlasted Monessen 6-5 in Section 2-A. No other details were made available to the Observer-Reporter.
