Baseball: Walk-off single sends South Fayette to win over West Allegheny
Richie Dell’s single with the bases loaded scored Spencer Barber in the bottom of the seventh inning to give South Fayette a 6-5 walk-off win over West Allegheny in a Section 3-AAA game at home.
The Lions (2-0, 3-4) took a 4-2 lead in the third inning after a four-run third inning. The Indians (0-1, 6-1), who were led by Michael Crawford’s two-run homer, regained the lead with three runs in the fourth before South Fayette tied it on a sacrifice fly by Geavonie Love. Cam Hoover earned the win with seven strikeouts.
Waynesburg 9, Frazier 3: Nick Fox had three hits and drove in two runs to help Waynesburg defeat Frazier 9-3 in a Section 2-AA game.
Tyler Rush also drove in two for the Raiders (2-2, 3-4. who snapped a two-game losing streak with a five-run fifth inning. Jacob Olbrys and Logan Muzina had two hits for the Commodores (0-4, 0-6).
Montour 5, McGuffey 4: Trent Vietmeier struck out seven and had two hits to lift Montour to a 5-4 win over McGuffey in a Section 3-AAA game.
Vietmeier, a Louisiana State recruit, had a double for the Spartans (1-1, 5-2), and Dan Orr went 3-for-4 with two RBI for the Highlanders (0-1, 2-2).
California 15, Jefferson-Morgan 4: Louden Conte drove in two and scored twice as California defeated Jefferson-Morgan 15-4 in a five-inning Section 1-A game.
Conte earned the win with three strikeouts and allowed six hits for the Trojans (2-0, 7-1). Gage Clark had a triple for the Rockets (0-2, 3-3).
Carmichaels 17, West Greene 2: Joel Spishock had a pair of doubles and Jacob Wamsley had two hits, including a triple, as Carmichaels defeated West Greene, 17-2, in a four-inning Section 1-A game.
Mike Ludrosky also doubled while Matthew Barrish allowed three hits to pick up the win for the Mikes (2-0, 6-1).
Dillon Shields doubled and Patrick Brady tripled for West Greene (0-3, 1-5). Michael Howard took the loss.
Chartiers-Houston 9, Beth-Center 6: Chartiers-Houston took advantage of six Beth-Center errors to score nine unearned runs, including three in the top of the eighth inning, to beat the Bulldogs, 9-6, in a Section 2-AA game.
Tyrone Wormsley and T.J. Johnson both had two hits for the Bucs (4-0, 6-1), while Zach Southern picked up the win.
Losing pitcher Lane Ziker doubled, as did Dillon Dingle for the Bulldogs (1-2, 1-3).
Avonworth 5, Burgettstown 2: Avonworth scored three runs in the first inning and held on for a 5-2 win over Burgettstown in a Section 1-AA game.
The Antelopes (4-1, 5-1) had seven hits and Ryan Louder had two hits with a run for the Blue Devils (0-4, 1-7).
Chartiers Valley 12, Trinity 0: Chartiers Valley scattered 13 hits and scored nine unearned runs to defeat Trinity 12-0 in a five-inning Section 3-AAA game at Consol Energy Park.
Dante Panucci went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI for the Colts (2-0, 7-2), who scored nine runs in the second inning. The Hillers (0-2, 2-5) committed five errors.
Uniontown 5, Ringgold 4: Uniontown scored four runs in the fifth inning and held on for a 5-4 win over Ringgold in a Section 4-AAA game.
The Raiders (3-2, 4-5) had five different players with multiple hits. Dalton Holt went 4-for-4 with a run and an RBI for the Rams (2-3, 3-5).
South Park 4, Belle Vernon 1: Four different players drove in a run and South Park turned three hits into four runs in a 4-1 win over Belle Vernon in a Section 4-AAA game.
Kyle Thompson pitched a complete game with four strikeouts and allowed just one run for the Eagles (2-2, 6-4). Evan Hannan went 4-for-4 with an RBI for the Leopards (3-2, 6-2), who stranded nine runners on base.
Avella 15, Cornell 2: Luke Lloyd went 2-for-3 and drove in three to help Avella rout Cornell 15-2 in a Section 1-A game.
Cody Dobbin struck out 10 and hit a double for the Eagles (1-2, 2-6). Dalton Simonelli and Dylan Markle each had a double.
Shawn Dilard doubled for COrnell (0-2, 0-6).
