Baseball: Sell relieves Burgettstown in win over Northgate

Brandon Sell pitched out of a bases loaded situation in the top of the seventh inning to preserve a 6-5 win by Burgettstown over Northgate in a Section 1-AA game.

Sell relieved winner Zack Frazier in the seventh and the Blue Devils (1-4, 2-7) holding a 6-4 lead with two outs and the bases loaded and got the final out. Brett Pisinski had two hits and scored twice for Burgettstown.

Northgate falls to 0-4, 0-7.

South Fayette 12, McGuffey 11: Nick Yaworski walked with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh inning to score the game-winning run in a 12-11 win over McGuffey in a Section 3-AAA game.

The Highlanders (0-2, 2-3) tied the score 11-11 with a five-run seventh inning led by Mike Novak’s two-run double. Tristan Tinney led off the seventh with a double for the Lions (3-0, 4-4) and three consecutive walks, including one intentional – ended the game.

Dakota Wilkinson went 3-for-5 with two RBI.

Bethel Park 4, Canon-McMillan 2: Cole Rodgers hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the fifth inning and Bethel Park held on for a 4-2 win over Canon-McMillan in a Section 5-AAAA game.

Rodgers also had a double and scored twice, while Jonathan Lucchitti had a double and an RBI for the Black Hawks (4-1, 8-2).

Connor Coleman had an RBI double for the Big Macs (2-3, 5-5).

Waynesburg 13, Beth-Center 3: Waynesburg scored six runs in the second inning and five in the sixth to clinch a 13-3 six-inning win over Beth-Center in a Section 2-AA game.

Trey Rohanna 2-for-4 with three RBI and Brandon Turcheck earned the win with 11 strikeouts for the Raiders (3-2, 4-4).

Dominic Funday had an RBI for the Bulldogs (1-3, 1-4).

Quaker Valley 12, Fort Cherry 9: Winning pitcher John Medich hit a two-run homer in the first inning as Quaker Valley held on to beat Fort Cherry, 12-9, in a Section 1-AA game.

Colin Jenkovic had four hits for the Quakers (4-1, 5-1), who led 12-3 before Fort Cherry (1-3) scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Austin Wood had three hits and three RBI for the Rangers.

West Greene 14, Jefferson-Morgan 9: Mike Howard had five hits, including three doubles, as West Greene outlasted Jefferson-Morgan, 14-9, in a Section 1-A game.

Cole Hamilton also had five hits, while Tyler Baker added a double for the Pioneers (1-3, 2-5). Dillon Shields got the win.

Isaac Dean, Zach Shaffer, Eli Rafail and Jacob Broadwater all had doubles for the Rockets (0-3, 3-4), while Jake Bissett took the loss.

Bishop Canevin 7, Avella 1: Tyler Lampus allowed just five hits as Bishop Canevin defeated Aella, 7-1, in a Section 5-A game.

Brian Deschon, Austin Liebro and Justin Dix doubled for Bishop Canevin (2-1, 3-2).

Garrett Geresti, Dalton Simonelli and losing pitcher Luke Lloyd doubled for Avella (1-3. 2-7).

Brownsville 4, Chartiers-Houston 3: Brownsville scored four unearned runs and held on for a 4-3 win over Chartiers-Houston in a Section 2-AA game.

The Bucs (4-1, 6-2) committed four errors that led to two runs in both the third and fifth innings. Jaryn Addis and Travis Bevard had RBI for the Falcons (4-0, 6-3).

Ethan Shober went 2-for-3 with an RBI for C-H.

California 15, Mapletown 0: Korbin Studnicki struck out four and drove in two runs to help California defeat Mapletown 15-0 in a three-inning Section 1-A game.

Jacob Swartz went 2-for-2 with three runs and Nathan Zemany scored three times for the Trojans (3-0, 8-1). The Maples dropped to 0-3 in section, 1-5 overall
