The WPIAL has chosen Robert Morris University’s Joe Walton Stadium as the site for its Class AA and Class A football championship games in November.

Located in Moon Township, the stadium seats 3,000 and opened in 2005. When the PIAA voted to expand to six classifications, the WPIAL faced a scheduling issue for its football championship games. Six games in one day at Heinz Field was not an option, so the WPIAL began accepting bids for the title games in its two smallest classifications.

“It’s a high-quality Division I football facility,” Tim O’Malley, WPIAL executive director, said.

The other four championship games will be played Nov. 18 at Heinz Field. The WPIAL also announced championship venues for other sports.

The baseball championships will continue to be played at Consol Energy Park as part of contract that runs through 2020. Softball will also remain at California University’s Lilley Field.

The Petersen Events Center on the University of Pittsburgh’s campus will continue to host the basketball championships and Highmark Stadium will host the soccer championships.
