Softball: Trinity moves into 4th place with win over EF
• Payton Barr hit a two-run home run and Trinity pounded out 11 hits to down Elizabeth Forward 7-3 in a Section 3-AAA game.
Sara Beecham had a two-run single for the Hillers (3-4, 4-7) and Kim Dunst had a double. Addison Barr picked up the win.
The Warriors fell to 8-3, 5-2 in the section. The win was Trinity’s second in a row and moved the Hillers into fourth place in the standings.
• Taylor and Tara Staley both homered and Waynesburg had 16 hits in a 10-0 five-inning win over Beth-Center in a Section 2-AA game.
Taylor Staley went 3-for-4 with four RBI and Tara Staley tripled and hit a two-run homer in the second inning for the Raiders (5-3, 5-9). Beth-Center (1-7, 1-8) had three hits.
• Dana Vatakis had three this and drove in two as Monessen defeated California 7-3 in a Section 2-A game.
The Greyhounds (5-1, 9-3) scored at least one run in all but one inning. Karen Watkins had a double and three RBI for the Trojans (1-5, 3-7).
• Three different players drove in two runs and West Mifflin scattered 12 hits in a 13-6 win over Ringgold in a Section 3-AAA game. Tiana Sekowski, Amber Cook and Isabella Farmer had two RBI for the Titans (2-5, 7-6). The Rams (2-4, 4-6) committed eight errors.
• Brownsville scored one run in the bottom of the eighth inning to walk away with a 9-8 win over Charleroi in a Section 2-AA game.
Celena Smith had four hits for the Falcons (5-3, 7-5), who are in a three-way tie for third place. Adrianna Gottheld went 4-for-5 for the Cougars (2-6, 3-6).
• Kate Tarr had nine total strikeouts and hit a three-run home run in the second game to help Burgettstown sweep a doubleheader with Freedom 12-0 in five innings and 12-1 in six innings in Section 1-AA.
Paige Sherman and Hannah Abbot both had three hits and drove in three runs in the first game for the Blue Devils (7-1, 9-5). Tarr hit a three-run shot in the fifth inning of game two and Cassie Carnes also drove in three runs. Freedom is 2-5, 5-8.
• Morgan Vickless had a home run, two singles and drove in two to help Bentworth to a 15-0, five-inning victory over Washington in a Section 2-A game.
Leah Lindley added a two-run home run for the Bearcats (7-1, 10-1) and Morgan Hawley doubled, homered and drove in two. Micaela Danley had a triple and single and Autumn Zgorlinski doubled. Casey Hite allowed only one walk in five innings and struck in seven.
• Linda Rush hit two home runs and drove in four as Canon-McMillan defeated Upper St. Clair 19-2 in a six-inning Section 4-AAAA game.
Rush went 4-for-4 with four RBI and four runs for the Big Macs (6-1, 10-2), who scored 13 runs in the sixth inning. Kayla Hopkins also went 4-for-5 with three RBi and Katelyn Greaves had four hits and four RBI. Upper St. Clair (0-7, 1-10) was held to three hits by C-M’s Abbi Michelucci, who had eight strikeouts.
