Softball: West Greene stops Jefferson-Morgan, stays unbeaten in 1-A

Madison Renner hit a two-run homer and scattered six hits, striking out seven, as West Greene defeated Jefferson-Morgan, 9-2, Monday in a Section 1-A game.

Madison Lampe added three hits with a double and four RBI for the Pioneers (6-0, 14-1), who also got two RBI from Lexie Mooney.

Brooke Diamond doubles and Autumn Tedrow had two hits, while Camryn Dugan took the loss for the Rockets (5-2, 9-5).

Avella 21, Aliquippa 6: Sam Dunkle hit a grand slam in the third inning and Avella took advantage of 15 walks by defeating Aliquippa 21-6 in a three-inning non-section game.

Dunkle overcame nine walks by striking out five and the Eagles (2-8), who are on a two-game winning streak. The Quips (1-9) had only two hits.

McGuffey 12, Washington 0: Winning pitcher Moriah McGuier threw a two-hitter and also went 4-for-4 with a double, homer and six RBI as McGuffey remained unbeaten with a 12-0, five-inning Section 2-AA win over Washington.

Julia Wise added a triple, while Rachel Kleinhans, Babby Pettit and Brin Hunter also doubled for the Highlanders (8-0, 10-0).

Alanna Ammon took the loss for Washington (0-9, 0-9).

California 19, Geibel Catholic 3: Morgan McBurnie and Karen Watkins both had triples in a 15-run second inning as California defeated Geibel Catholic, 19-3, in a three-inning Section 2-A game.

Kylie Trusler got the win for California (2-5, 4-7). Chelsea Ward took the loss for Geibel (0-5, 2-5).

Trinity 5, West Mifflin 3: Kim Dunst hit a tiebreaking two-run single in the third inning and Trinity fought off a last-inning rally by West Mifflin to defeat the Titans, 5-3, in Section 3-AAA.

The win evened Trinity’s record at 4-4 in the section. The Hillers, who are in fourth place in the section, are 5-7 overall. West Mifflin is 2-6, 7-7.

Dunst’s two-run single in the third inning drove in Santana King and Morgan Pacconi, giving Trinity a 3-1 lead. The Hillers pushed their advantage to 5-1 when an error, one of six by West Mifflin, allowed two runs to score in the fifth inning.

West Mifflin had three hits in the top of the seventh and pulled to within 5-3, but winning pitcher Addison Barr finished off the victory. She struck out seven and did not issue a walk.

Dunst and King each had two hits to lead the Trinity offense.

Canon-McMillan 15, Chartiers Valley 2: Linda Rush drove in four runs and Canon-McMillan rolled to a 15-2 victory over visiting Chartiers Valley in non-section game.

Rush was 2-for-3 with two-run singles in the second inning and Canon-McMillan’s seventh-run fourth. The Big Macs had 13 hits. Ashley Buggey had a triple and two RBI, Kylah Kubiczki was 3-for-3 with three RBI, Kirsten Rush doubled and Katelyn Greaves and Julia Ciotti each drove in two runs.

Kaylee Gohring was the winning pitcher as the Big Macs improved their record to 11-2.

Belle Vernon 8, Greensburg Salem 1: A pair of two-run innings powered Belle Vernon to an 8-1 non-section victory over Greensburg Salem.

Alyssa Larson hit a home run and drove in two runs for the Leopards (11-4), who have won three in a row. Katelin Legazza and Hanna Legazza each drove in two runs, Lexie Church had a double and Kourtney Gavatorta collected three singles in Belle Vernon’s 11 hit-attack.

Winning pitcher Bailey Parshall threw a four-hitter and struck out seven.

Greensburg Salem’s record is 6-6.

Thomas Jefferson 14, Ringgold 3: Section 3-AAA leader Thomas Jefferson cruised to a 14-3 victory over Ringgold.

After Ringgold (2-5, 4-7) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, Thomas Jefferson (7-0, 10-1) scored twice in the bottom of the inning and six more times in the second.

Johnna Mocniak was 2-for-2 with a run and RBI for Ringgold.

Thomas Jefferson has won seven in a row.
