California moved into a tie for first place in Section 1-A Tuesday by defeating host Carmichaels, 13-1.

The Trojans (6-1, 12-2) are tied for the section lead with Bentworth. The Trojans and Bearcats play Monday in California.

Winning pitcher Louden Conte improved his record to 7-1. He struck out 10 and did not allow an earned run. Conte helped his own cause by going 3-for-4 and scoring three runs.

Nathaniel Luketich hit a two-run homer in the first inning. Enzo Mariscotti drove in two runs and Brendan Sheehan doubled.

Carmichaels is 3-4 in section and 7-5 overall.

• Belle Vernon and host West Mifflin traded the lead seven times before BVA scored two runs in the top of the ninth inning for a 7-5 victory over West Mifflin in Section 4-AAA.

It was the second win in less than 24 hours for Belle Vernon (7-3, 10-3), which is in second place in the section. West Mifflin is 4-6, 5-7-1.

Belle Vernon took a 5-4 lead with a run in the top of the seventh on a throwing error by West Mifflin on a double steal. The Titans, however, forced extra innings when Anthony Veltri’s double drove in the tying run.

In the ninth, Belle Vernon did all its damage after having two outs and nobody on base. Three walks and a single gave the Leopards the lead, and a single by Deven Judy gave Belle Vernon an insurance run.

Eric Harkins was the winning pitcher with three innings of relief.

• Troy Novak hit a pair of doubles as Laurel Highlands exploded for 12 runs in the final three innings to pull away from Ringgold in a 13-3 Section 4-AAA game.

Winning pitcher Hudson Novak also doubled, as did Dom Peroni for Laurel Highlands (10-0, 13-1).

Connor Garry doubled, while Bo Haines took the loss for Ringgold (2-8, 3-11).
