Baseball: Cal takes 2 from West Liberty
Joe Yourgal drove in eight runs in two games as California swept a doubleheader from West Liberty, 16-1 and 5-4, Wednesday at Consol Energy Park.
Yourgal hit two home runs and went 4-for-6 with six runs and eight RBI. His two-run shot in the sixth inning of the second game gave the Vulcans (24-18) the one-run lead after trailing 4-0 in the fourth inning. Eric Fairman also had a big day, hitting a home run in the opener with five RBI.
Brandon Warner earned the win in game two by pitching a scoreless sixth inning and Tyler Eritz got a win in the opener with five scoreless innings.
• Frank Fortunado went 4-for-4 with a double, Michael Ruffing drove in three runs and Washington & Jefferson crushed Muskingum 10-2 in a non-conference game at Ross Memorial Park.
Muskingum (16-17) scored the game’s first run, then W&J (18-14) relled off 10 unanswered over a five-inning stretch. The Presidents had 16 hits, including a double by Mark Merlino.
Winning pitcher Joe Vita improved his record to 3-2.
