High school softball: West Greene nears milestone with win
West Greene clinched at least a share of the Section 1-A title after a 4-0 shutout of Mapletown. Madison Renner and Madison Lampe each drove in two runs for the Pioneers (8-0, 16-1), who can win the first section title outright since the 1983 team that won 18 games. West Greene can set the record for wins in a season by reaching 19.
McKenna Lampe scored twice and stole two bases. Bailey Bennington allowed only two hits, one a double to Macee Chesney.
• Tiffany Ross hit a solo home run and Brooke Meek drove in two runs to help Waynesburg to an important 5-3 win over Bentworth in a Section 2-AA game.
Tara Staley doubled for the Raiders (6-3, 6-9), who are tied with Carmichaels for third place.
Morgan Vickless had a double and two-run home run for Bentworth (7-3, 10-4).
• Kaitlyn Dittrich pounded out three hits and drove in four runs to propel Chartiers-Houston to an 8-2 victory over Jefferson-Morgan in a Section 1-A game.
Kayla Alderson homered and drove in three for the Bucs (6-2, 9-5). The top four players in C-H’s lineup went 5-for-12 with six runs.
Camryn Dugan had two doubles and Brooke Diamond one for the Rockets (5-3, 9-6).
• Hannah Abbott and Tori Carnes each drove in two runs to help Burgettstown to a 10-0, five-inning Section 1-AA game. Abbott went 2-for-4 and Carnes was 3-for-3 for the Blue Devils (8-1, 12-5). Cassie Carnes had two doubles and Nia Winters one.
• Lauren Walker allowed just one run in Carmichaels’ 6-1 victory over Beth-Center in a Section 1-A game.
Natalie McNett had a triple and Alayna Mickoloff an RBI single for the Mikes (7-3, 8-6). Abby Gustovich struck out eight for Beth-Center (1-8, 1-9).
• In other games, Fort Cherry defeated Avella 10-1 in a Section 1-A game, and Moon downed Peters Towship, 8-5, in a non-conference game.
