Louisville’s Lamar Jackson added another trophy to his stellar season, claiming the Maxwell Award as the top player in college football.

Jackson was honored during a ceremony Thursday night. The other finalists were Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield and Michigan all-around star Jabrill Peppers.

The Cardinals quarterback already picked up the Walter Camp Award as the top college player, but the one he really wants is still to come. Jackson is a finalist for the Heisman Trophy that will be handed out Saturday in New York.

Jackson put up some staggering numbers in his sophomore season, throwing for 3,390 yards and 30 touchdowns while rushing for 1,538 yards and 21 touchdowns.

Bednarik Award: Alabama defensive end Jonathan Allen has claimed the Chuck Bednarik Award as the top defensive player in college football.

The other finalists Thursday night were Myles Garrett of Texas A&M and Jabrill Peppers of Michigan.

Allen became the first player from Alabama to win the Bednarik Award. He already won another award as the nation’s best defensive player, the Bronko Nagurski Trophy.

Biletnikoff Award: Oklahoma’s Dede Westbrook has won the Biletnikoff Award as the top receiver in college football.

Westbrook, a senior, picked up the trophy Thursday night at the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta. He beat out Austin Carr of Northwestern and Zay Jones of East Carolina.

Westbrook teamed with quarterback Baker Mayfield for 74 receptions, 1,465 yards and 16 touchdowns, helping the Sooners win the Big 12 title.

Doak Walker Award: D’Onta Foreman of Texas captured the Doak Walker Award as the nation’s top college running back after rushing for more than 2,000 yards.

Foreman’s performance was a bright spot in another disappointing season for the Longhorns, who fired coach Charlie Strong and hired Tom Herman.

The junior said Thursday night he was pleased to win the Doak Walker with “everything going on in our program.” He also noted that many people said he would have to change positions in college, a slight that motivated him to show he could play running back at the highest levels.

Groza Award: Zane Gonzalez of Arizona State has claimed the Lou Groza award as the nation’s top kicker.

The senior made 23 of 25 field attempts, with both misses coming from 53 yards. He tied an FBS record with three field goals longer than 50 yards in one game, including a career-best 59-yarder.

Gonzalez finished with 108 points, also making 39 of 40 PATs.

The other finalists Thursday night were Daniel Carlson of Auburn and Younghoe Koo of Georgia Southern.

Thorpe Award: Adoree’ Jackson of Southern California has claimed the Jim Thorpe Award as the top defensive back in college football.

Jackson beat out LSU’s Tre’Davious White and Michigan’s Jourdan Lewis.

The winner is more than a defensive back. Jackson ranks third nationally in punt returns (15.9-yard average), sixth in kickoff returns (30.5) and has scored touchdowns this season on offense and defense, as well as returning punts and kickoffs.

Ray Guy Award: Utah sophomore Mitch Wishnowsky has captured the Ray Guy Award as the best punter in college football.

Wishnowsky is among a wave of punters from Australia who have revolutionized the position in America. He was honored Thursday night, beating out Michael Dickson of Texas and Cameron Johnston of Ohio State.

Wishnowsky led the nation in net punting (44.9 yards) and had 28 punts of at least 50 yards. He didn’t have a touchback after his first game of the season.
