Washington rallies to defeat Carmichaels
Torri Finley scored 15 points and Washington erased a halftime deficit with a 14-2 run in the third quarter on the way to a 42-28 win over Carmichaels Friday night in the opening round of the Charleroi girls basketball tournament.
Carley allen added 11 points, while Jahlea Oakley had 12 rebounds for the Prexies (1-0), who will face Charleroi in tonight’s championship game (7:30 p.m.).
The two teams combined to shoot just 16 of 58 from the free throw line.
Shelby McCann had seven points to lead Carmichaels (0-1).
Charleroi 85, Monessen 18: Kaitlyn Riley led six scorers in double digits with 15 points as the Cougars routed Monessen, 85-18, in the opening round of the Charleroi Tournament.
Sierra Shorts had 14, Maria Claybaugh and Adriana Gottheld 13 each, Maggie Albert 12 and Bella Skobel 11 for the Cougars (1-0).
Natalia Holmes and Qitorah Hudson had five points each for Monessen (0-1).
Burgettstown 54, Mapletown 28: Malia Castellino scored 13 points as Burgettstown opened the game on a 13-4 run en route to a 54-28 win over Mapletown in the opening round of the Avella Tournament.
Emily Prasko added 12 points for the Blue Devils (1-0).
Kelsi Smith had 10 points for Avella (0-1).
Avella 46, Bentworth 26: Bailey Lis had 12 points as Avella topped Bentworth, 46-26, in the opening round of the Avella Tournament.
Kodie Georgetti added 10 points for the Eagles (1-0), who will play Burgettstown in tonight’s championship game (7:30 p.m.)
Grace Marchezak led Bentworth (0-1) with seven points.
Beth-Center 62, Eden Christian 27: Kinlee Whited nearly outscored Eden Christian herself with 26 points in a 62-27 Beth-Center win at the Freedom Tournament.
Beth-Center (1-0) took control of the game from the start, opening with a 21-0 run.
Avonworth 48, McGuffey 22: Hayden and Hunter Robinson combined for 17 points to lead Avonworth to a 48-22 victory over McGuffey in the first round of the Brownsville tournament.
Avonworth led 23-10 at halftime and protected the lead by holding McGuffey to 10 field goals and only four free-throw attempts. Hayden Robinson scored nine points to pace the Antelopes and Hayden Robinson had 18.
Emuly Durila led McGuffey with nine game. The Highlanders will play in the consolation game today at 1 p.m.
South Allegheny 50, Fort Cherry 40: Alyssa Kennedy had 23 points as South Allegheny held off Fort Cherry, 50-40, in the opening round of the Sto-Rox Tournament.
Katelyn Wyler and Sydney Kirkwood chipped in 10 points each for South Allegheny (1-0).
Abby Cooper scored 13 points, while Shannon Relihan had 10 for the Rangers (0-1).
California 60, Aliquippa 33: Bailey Vig scored 16 points to pace California to a 60-33 win over Aliquippa in the South Side Beaver Tournament.
Jenna Miller added 11 points for the Trojans. Brielle Sims led Aliquippa with 15 points.
California will play in the 6 p.m. finals today.
Peters Township 69, Elizabeth Forward 19: Three players scored in double figures to lead Peters Township to a 69-19 victoery in the Peters Township-Baldwin Tipoff Tournament.
Alyssa Konopka led the way for PT with 17 points. Makenna Marisa added 16 and Isabella Mills 15.
Brianna Spirnak paced EF with 12 points.
Peters Township hosts North Hills at 7:30 tonight.
Belle Vernon 69, Quigley 52: Ashley Russell scored 16 points to power Belle Vernon to a 69-52 win over Quigley in the Ambridge Tournament.
Kelsey Green and Lindsay Steeber each scored 12 points for the Leopards and Caitlyn Trombley added 11.
Ava Haddox tossed in 19 points and Clara Stephenson added 13 for quigley.
Belle Vernon plays Ambridge at 4 p.m. today in the championship game.
West Greene 62, Waynesburg 12: The Lampe sisters each scored 20 points to pace West Greene to a 62-12 rout of Waynesburg in a non-section game.
Madison Lampe scored hers on eight baskets and three free thows. McKenna Lampe did it on seven baskets and six free throws.
Claire Garber led Waynesburg with five points.
