West Greene beats Bentworth in OT

Nathan Brudnock’s desperation three-pointer from the corner as time expired in overtime was good as West Greene knocked off Bentworth, 58-57, in overtime in a season-opening non-section high school boys basketball game Friday night.

Brudnock’s three, which gave him 14 points, helped the Pioneers (1-0) avoid losing a game they led 26-17 at the half.

Colton Rush led West Greene with 19 points, while Craig Weaver has 12 and Zach McHenry 10.

Steve Harner had a game-high 25 points for Bentworth (0-1), which closed regulation on a 13-5 run and had a chance to win late in the fourth quarter when it failed to convert on an opportunity at the foul line.

Levi Jordan added 14 points in the losing effort.

Ringgold 70, Mt. Pleasant 59: Dakota Browning scored eight of Ringgold’s 14 points in the second overtime as the Rams outlasted host Mt. Pleasant, 70-59, at the Tom Traynor Tournament.

Browning finished with 19 points, while Anthony Pampina led the Rams (1-0) with 20. Chris Peccon had 18 points for Ringgold, as well.

Keith Kalp scored 20 points and Jason Berncanek added 19 for Mt. Pleasant (0-1).

Carmichaels 48, Avella 44: Liam Shea scored 16 points as Carmichaels overcame a halftime deficit to hold off Avella, 48-44, in a non-section game.

Matt Barrish added 13 points for the Mikes (1-0), who trailed 26-24 at the half but led 35-30 entering the fourth quarter.

Steve Miller led Avella (0-1) with 13 points, while Garrett Geresti chipped in 10 points for the Eagles.

Laurel Highlands 91, Waynesburg 45: Bryce Laskey had 27 points and Laurel Highlands raced out to a 27-4 lead after one quarter en route to a 91-45 win over Waynesburg in the Fayette County Coaches Tournament at Penn State Fayette.

Hudson Novak added 21 points and Wil Deichart had 14 for Laurel Highlands (1-0).

Darton McIntire led Waynesburg (0-1) with 23 points.

Charleroi 81, Chartiers-Houston 67: Dremar Everette scored a team-high 29 points to lead Charleroi to an 81-67 win over Chartiers-Houston in the McGuffey Tipoff Tournament.

Sam Micelli added 23 and eric tedrow 17 for the cougars.

Cam Hanley scored a game-high 34 for the Bucs, who also got 24 from A.J. Myers.

California 106, Mapletown 12: Five players reached double figures in scoring to help California glide to a 106-12 win over Mapletown in the Geibel Catholic Tipoff Tournament.

Kass Tayloer led all scorers with 18 points and 13 rebounds. Jaycee Conaway, Ben Wilson, and Cochise Ryan each scored 14 points and Dru Miller added 10.

California will play either Geibel Catholic or Jeff-Morgan in the championship tomorrow at 7:30.

Jefferson-Morgan 82, Geibel 58: D.L. Garrett and Jalen Torres combined for 47 points to propel Jefferson-Morgan to an 82-58 win overgeibel in the Geibel Tipoff Tournament.

Garrett poured in 24 points and Torres 23 for the Rockets, who play California in the title game at 7:30 p.m. today.

Cole Kendall scored 22 points and Enzo Fetsko chipped in with 13 for Geibel.

McGuffey 55, Burgettstown 46: Trent Belleville had a double-double to pace McGuffey to a 55-46 victory over Burgettstown in the McGuffey Tipoff Tournament.

Belleville scored 12 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for the Highlanders. Colin Chapman added 16 points for McGuffey, which plays Charleroi in the finals at 8 tonight.

Robert Dupain scored 12 points and reed Reitter 10 for the Blue devils, who play Chartiers-Houston in the 6 p.m. consolation game today.

Upper St. Clair 61, Monessen 54: Kyle Meinert scored 22 points to lead Upper st. Clair to a 61-54 victory over Monessen.

Jack Hansberry and Matt Kissinger each scored 10 for USC.

Jaden altomore scored his 1,000th point on his last basket of the game for Monessen. He finished with 17 points.
